She glanced around before beginning to check things, testing the floor, the faucets, the soundness of the furniture.

"Anything is better than outside, right?"

"In this weather? Couldn't agree more."

He stepped forward and had a seat on the sofa, watching her as she looked around the place. He sipped from his cup of coffee and awkwardly crinkled the cardboard wrapper.

"Not a bad deal for a month."

She sat down on the couch next to him, crossing her legs. "No, I suppose not. Though I'm a bit out of practice on 'living', as it were."

As an afterthought, she added, "Well, I guess this couch can hold weight."

"Hmm." He smiled a little crookedly, staring down at the floor. "Wouldn't you know it, so am I."
