"It really never quite disappears, does it?" He stood just behind Adachi, looking into the alleyway and remembering fondly how it was that he first met the detective. His hands tucked into the pockets of his coat as he hummed softly for a moment. Smell of death and decay always clung on regardless of how people try to escape it. And why should they try to escape it when it was part of who they were? "But I do think that it is best that there is always a reminder of it so that people do not forget just how helpless they are when the time comes ( ... )

The reaction that elicited was nothing short of...graceful, perhaps, if a loud, high-pitched squawking yelp and a few steps stumbled forward could be called that. Adachi managed, by some stroke of luck, to catch himself before his face engaged in yet another painful affair with the pavement, and he turned around as soon as he regained his footing. After all, of all the things he hated in the world, things he didn't expect could have very well topped that list. I want the world to go the way I want it.Falling quiet, he stared for a moment, as if watching for an attack, as if bracing himself for something unpleasant, but Yaha was the picture-perfect image of gentlemanly amiability (largely because pictures, worth a thousand words as they were, could only say so much). Adachi did not ease, but as if his spring had been wound up and set to play again, he moved into action with an uneasy smile. It was hard to say, then, which one of those reactions had been the decoy. "Uh, me?" he asked, uselessly, because it wasn't as if Yaha meant ( ... )

His hand covered his mouth to barely stifle the good-natured laugh that bubbled out at Adachi's reaction. Really, what was there to fear from me? Yaha continued to smile affectionately at the man even after he dropped his hand away back into his pocket. Be as Sir Kira would like me to be. He rocked his head from side to side -- still smiling -- as he thought of how to act just so. About how it is that he could be 'good.' The good that he knew was considered evil in this world, which was so troubling when one thought of it.

Oh well. He stopped the rocking of his head when his friend began to speak. "I'm most glad to hear that you are in good health." His smile widened accordingly to show just a little bit of white. "Oh, no. Not the same as always. That would be too dull. I found that it's much better to evolve one's self so that you can always be sure to surprise people." But then, he felt that no one understood just how much he had to change to adjust to this world that was so far removed from his own. He bowed his head for a moment ( ... )

The skin around his eyes and mouth pulled taut. Little twat still had the gall to call him a 'colleague', huh? Though technically, that was true. Without proper evidence, the Justice Brigade and Company had utterly failed to bring any actual charges to light. Yaha was still running around free, as if it weren't obvious enough, and still in the force to boot. Hell, he hadn't even been given a proper slap on the wrist.

But there was no real justice in the world, anyway.

"What were you thinking of, exactly?" Adachi asked, easing his composure in what was an unfortunately obvious attempt to seem at ease. Unfortunately, his acting ability was only sub-par at times - his wandering eyes gave him away. They darted to and fro, from the alley to the street to the very ground, paved with cement. He hadn't forgotten about the gnomes, and their uncanny ability to sprout from the ground right beneath your feet. (There was nothing a person could trust in the world). "'Cause you know, call me picky, but I'm not really the kind of guy ( ... )
