At least there wasn't a massive crisis on their hands tonight.

That is- there were still plenty of radiation poisonings who would be written a Neumune prescription and sent on their way, the usual round of people brought in for critical care just after the sirens, a few suffering from hypothermia, others with 24 hour flu or just faking some symptoms to have an excuse to stay somewhere warm and indoors till dawn.

There was a worrisome number of those, transients with nowhere else to go. Daedalus sent them up to the staff cafeteria to stay warm.

It wasn't until the early hours nearing dawn that he glanced down the dwindling list of names, the less urgent cases, and saw that Jomy was listed- in the weary near dawn wave of exhaustion, it took a moment to recognize the name.

Oh. Shiroe's friend? Why didn't he call me about an appointment sooner? He stepped into the examination room, shaking off the drowsiness, setting down his clipboard and looking up with a light, polite smile. Daedalus was doubling up on layers now, two thermals, then ( ... )

Originally, his glance up at the doctor was the unfocused type. Sleep-deprived, a little messy, very much unlike his usual posture. That lasted about a second, followed by a sharp, and grateful, focus on Daedalus. Jomy could definitely see the resemblance (it was faint, but it was there there) alright. Physically, anyway. Shiroe's mind would always feel a bit different due to the boy being what he was (naturally more (un)guarded) while this doctor's mind was entirely human-like ( ... )

Daedalus was enough of a younger man to be called 'Doogie' by the orderlies (whatever that meant, some sort of swipe on his age, but it was preferable to jokes about wax and wings and labyrinths from people who fancied themselves clever to know the mythos). In truth he was only about five years younger than most of the medical interns, but his features were a bit weak, boyish, smoothed. This helped with easing patient's worries, in fact that's probably why he'd been designed so comfortingly fresh-faced, with calm and cooled bedside demeanor to match ( ... )

What he found odd most of all was the forced quietness of this doctor's mind. There were ghosts of feelings here and there, but they were mere wisps compared to the onslaught he typically received from others of this city. It was both welcoming and a little alarming - even Shiroe expressed himself more freely (though it was never physically visible). Perhaps it was this situation? It was a hospital, and the man was on duty. It made a strange sort of sense that

Still, it puzzled him to the point that he did not immediately respond, giving a mere tilt of the head instead. A confusing gesture when viewed from an outsider's eyes, perhaps, but it was a habit so well-ingrained that it went unnoticed in Jomy.

Another beat, then he seemed to tug himself out of his supposed stupor (scrutiny) before obeying the silent request. After the check was over, he leaned away to properly answer.

"No, there's been no bleeding. I live in Sector 6, so I've been able to avoid the contaminated water."
