Hunter five... thepull_npc October 22 2010, 07:54:54 UTC
[...the immortal witch]

[Her partner in the hunt was taking his sweet time with weapon and sent her off on her own. She didn’t mind. She was young looking, barely five foot tall with long hair and pale skin. Too young to be hunting, and with only a dagger and borrowed rifle? What was she thinking?]

[Then again she didn’t look normal either. Not when she paused at a pond, walking on top of it to the middle and sitting down on top of it. That’s where you would find her at this moment. Seated in the middle of a pond as if she was resting on a lily pad. Her hands were clasped together, fingers twisted weird. Her lips moved but no sound came out. Her eyes were closed.]

[From the pond, little tendrils of water snaked out, sliding through the dried grasses and through the forest near by, snaking around, moving to a plant and shifting that as well. It was easy to snare a person when they didn’t think the environment was going to jump up and get them.]

[Jubilee had been stalking through the trees themselves. Hours back in the danger grotto, in the woods around the mansion and just tromping with Wolvie allowed her to move with an ease in the trees that most humans - or hell, even mutants - didn't have.

She liked having what she thought of as an advantage.

... Except, suddenly, it wasn't.

The tree she'd crouched in to grab a look at the chick sitting in the middle of the water - show off - moved slightly. Jubilee ground her teeth together and clung, barely managing to not fall out of the tree.

Oh... this was going to be fun. Just like fighting Krakoa after it had been made into their danger grotto in Massachusetts. Yeah. Did she mention the fun?]

[She sat still, waiting, moving the water to take up roots or vines, to slip into the trees and bushes. She had spread out a long nerves system of elemental earthly magic, plotting out where everything was. She saw her friend and hunting mate, searching a hill, a large man approaching. She noticed one of those she hunted running between her location and his.]

[Then she saw someone hiding, not far from her. Another to be hunted? She was unaware that there were more in the game. Spender was getting tricky in his later years.]

[She smiled.] I know you're there, mortal.

[If Jubilee would like to notice, while she clung to that tree, a long thin thread of water had just tightened around on of her ankles, yanking back and trying to rip her from the tree and back to the earth.]

[Mortal? Good god, was she in some bad sci-fi movie?

Then, she felt the yank. Crap!

Hours upon hours in the gym, in the danger grotto, in the Danger Room, in real life and death situations served her well. The fall started uncontrolled, but she managed to turn it into something far more elegant as she rolled back to her feet on the ground.]

Well, I wasn't hidin', lady.

[Except she had been. Better to have bravado, than to cower in surprise.]

So. Water huh? [She didn't move an inch, waiting for the woman's next move.]

[Claudio .[He had just spent a week in a cage with three other slaves trapped in cages near by. Water and food had been sparse, drugs had kept everyone dumbed down, and a device around their ankles kept the powers in check. When the smoke canisters hit the room to knock them all one last time he knew he’d wake up in hell this time ( ... )

[Jinx's heart was racing, her head was screaming, and she felt sick to her stomach. For the first time in her life, she had intentionally killed someone. At first it was an accident, just a bit of bad luck, but... then she finished him off. She put a sword through his heart. She was covered in her own blood from the bullet grazes. Her side looked a hell of a lot worse than it really was from where he had slashed her, dampening her black clothes. On her hand and shoes were his oddly colored blood. It smelled sickening. She wanted to pretend that didn't happen, but Trauma had seen her there. He would always know. It happened, and there was no reversing it. She was a murderer.]

[...but there was no reason to stop the mission. Look for Claudio, and find him dead or alive. At this point, she was not hopeful, just bitterly optimistic that she would find him still breathing. She almost hoped he was injured so he would be easier to sniff out. The scent of his blood was familiar to her. So familiar she could smell it now from memory. Wait. ( ... )

[He wasn't sure where he was going, but he was invisible and making his way as well as he could. He fell a few times, trying to convince himself to get up and move. The lil vice in his head spearing him on.]

[His mind drifted off, trying to ignore the burning pain in his ankle. Fuck, he did that one himself. A run in with the Rhino caused his shoulder to really ache, and the cattle proddings through the week? Well needless to say walking sucked, but he was trying.]

[He didn't realize he left a blood trail. But perhaps it was a good thing. he didn't hear her coming up behind him. He was invisible still, head running, thinking, still in a panic as he needed to get out of here. He needed to get home. If they were in the Hunting grounds he could limp his way to Jubilee's place before dark, right? Or would home be faster? Maybe he should go to the hospi--]

[Jinx could barely believe what was before her when her missing roommate suddenly blinked into existence. He looked terrible. Like someone who had been tortured, beaten, deprived of all things human. But that was not what shocked her. What really got to her was that he was there, still alive, and saying her name. She didn't want to believe that he was dead, but she was beginning to. Now she was momentarily baffled, staring at him with wide, upset eyes.]

Dio!

[Breath still not completely caught, she sprinted the rest of the way to him. Before she could even think about anything else, her body reacted. She put both her hands on his face, his head, then kissed him flat on the lips. It was quick and chaste. Then her arms went around his waist, head on his chest as she shivered. Tears were running freely from her eyes now.]

Thank God you're still alive.

[She listened to his heartbeat, hands grasping at the back of his torn up shirt. Her legs were trembling. Fuck, she was terrified. But so... relieved. Like everything was okay, even ( ... )
