Rukia checks the number on the door against the slip of paper she'd scrawled the information for Kurosaki-san's apartment on. Certain she was at the right place, she paused to check herself. Her shihakusho was clean, her hair neat, her nails trimmed, Sode no Shirayuki oiled and polished... she was presentable. Satisfying a burst of nervousness with a last second preening, she quietly knocked on the door of the apartment.

"Orph..." wait, he was a doctor, right? "Orpheus-sensei? It's Kuchiki Rukia."

Ah, there she was now. Orpheus-sensei - he liked the sound of that! He hurried to the door and opened it to see a petite young lady dressed in the traditional shinigami garb that he had seen Kurosaki wearing after returning from the dead. She looked too delicate to be a death god.

"Please do come in, Miss Kuchiki. Or would you prefer Kuchiki-san?" He led the way into the living room. "Please make yourself comfortable. Can I offer you some cookies or lemonade?" He poured a glass of lemonade before waiting for an answer and brandished the plate of cookies at her.

"Kuchiki-san is fine."

He was tall (but everyone was in comparison to her), leanly built, with the first creases of age around his eyes and wings of grey and white at his temples. His dress was something new, especially the long cape that faintly reminded her of her brother's haori with its dramatic flare as he turned. Stepping into the apartment, she knelt to untie her waraji and place them beside the door, Sode no Shirayuki carefully propped against the doorjamb. It seemed rude to carry her blade around in someone else's abode.

"I would appreciate th-!" Whoah! The plate of cookies was nearly in her face when he turned around. Blinking at the plate of snickerdoodles, Rukia carefully reached up and plucked one from the pile. "Thank you."

And so polite! Removing her shoes and sword, thanking him for the snacks. Eastern cultures really did have something over his own experiences with surly Americans. "You're very welcome."

Orpheus sat down in an armchair with a slight flip of his cape. "Now Kuchiki-san, how may I help you? Kurosaki told me that you're looking for work. Do you just have some general questions about what I've been doing here in Siren's Port? Would you like to go out with me the next time I have a job and get a feel for the work I do? Did you have something else in mind?" He looked at her expectantly as he took a cookie for himself.
