She had almost everything she needed. There were a few classes she decided to take on a whim, which might have been really illogical in the long run but none the less she did it. With her first few days at SPU already under her belt she had each of her professor’s syllabuses and book lists at the ready ( ... )

You'd think that inside of a bookstore, things of interest wouldn't happen to much. Things of interest by Shiroe's standard, anyhow: maybe buying books and getting revved up for classes was a real experience for someone else, but not at all for him. Not at all until there was a shout and someone rammed into his shoulder, at least. His attention went to the person who had run past, of course (- accomplishment, smug, in a rush -), rather than whoever had shouted; and while he might have not have been too annoyed before, now he was. What did someone have to feel proud about when all they'd done was snatch up a book ( ... )

If you think the inside of a book store that sells text books to students just before classes start for the year should be mellow... then you haven’t been to a lot of college book stores. It wasn’t unheard of to have rude people running through the store, but it was still a bother.

The boy she checked on called to the book grabber, but his words fell on deaf ears. It didn’t matter anyhow, as long as he was alright, yes? At the smile she smiled back, a mask of a smile of course, but still pleasant and kind. A ‘Oh good...’ look crossed through it as well.

“He... well...” She paused, shaking off the indignant feel of it all. At least no one was hurt. “I suppose he really wanted the cheaper book is all. It was one of the last used ones.” She said with a small sigh, still smiling. “Still, the rudeness of people... This city, I swear...”

"It isn't just this city, is it? I guess the powers make everyone a bit worse..." His tone dropped appropriately, sounding more put-out than he actually felt, eyes dropping down toward the floor. He might have added a pout, but that was going far too overboard; instead, his gaze turned up a second later, black bangs partially obscuring his eyes. Truthfully, he did need a hair cut.

Truthfully, he'd only said those words to imply optimism. Optimism in this city, he'd decided (by himself, of course), was more suicidal than it was pointless. Being optimistic about one's chances at not getting torn apart after the sirens, for instance, would most certainly be disappointing. Ah, well. It wasn't his fault if people were going to be stupid.

It was his fault if she turned out to be an anti-newcomer and she interpreted his saying that way. But maybe he was a bit curious over that, too.

Less put-out, anyhow -- "Have you ever gone to college before? Or is this your first time?"

... So asked the fourteen year old.
