That entire business with the cult makes me wonder: is coming back from the dead really so unusual a thing? [ His tone sounds pleasant enough, slightly musing, but the pause that comes after those words is calculated. ]In Spira, the deceased returned ( Read more... )

So...what did you do about it?

[ He shrugs. ] I made myself indispensable to them. They could detest the Al Bhed all they like, but they couldn't deny that I was a great help to them, so they accepted what I had to offer while cursing me behind my back. A kind of grudging acceptance, you might say.

Fortunately, the power of Yevon has mostly been shattered. But it's a bit difficult to change the way people think in only a few years, don't you think?

...you think us newcomers are like that?

I wouldn't know. I've only existed for one.

[ Bluntly: ] Yes. No matter how much we might wish to think otherwise, the truth of the matter remains that we're a minority in this city. I am certain we're quite the administrative headache.

Not human, are you?

No! I'm human! I was...just made different!

Every one of us needs to be housed, oriented, and then integrated into the city itself, which translates to hours of paperwork. Until recently, new faces flooded the city every month. Yes. [ A beat. ] Regardless, it is their world, not ours.

This is my first world. I didn't have a real one, before here.

[ And back to that, again. ]

You did not? Then what kind of world did you live in?

Just a....like a ...place, between them.

It does not sound as though it has much to recommend it, what with being neither in one place nor another, and not "real" on top of that.

Yeah. So I wouldn't want to go back, even if I could.

Understandable.

You mentioned before, that you were made differently. In what way?

...

Differently. It's none of your business how.
