First Spell

[The feed opens with Merlin staring down skeptically at the book in his hands. There’s a moment’s pause, and then he glances back at the baseball diamond before turning back to the book.]

Er-- [He taps it once, making the screen shake, and then leans in a bit too closely, speaking as softly as he can.]

Merlin, I hate to break this to you but you've been transported several centuries into the future and into another dimension completely. I know it sounds crazy but I'm hoping you've seen enough crazy so far in your life to realize it's possible.

[He paused a moment to consider a better explanation.]

There are... more than just one world. One Earth, one reality. There are several. Normally, they don't touch or interact. You and Arthur are in your world, Spider-Man is in his world, I'm in my world, none of us meet. We all live on a version of Earth, but they're slightly different.

[A moment's pause, but he nods.]

So why can we here?

Because something called the Core pulled us all here, to this reality and this Earth.

Wizard-y magic? Potions, incantations, the occasional summoning, other various spells.

You-- wouldn't happen to have a book of them, would you? Or know where I could get one?

[Harry glanced down at the young man, almost looking him in the eye.]

The Merlin that served Arthur Pendragon is the greatest wizard ever known in the history of magic. So if I, and other people, freak out a little bit that is why. Now, what room number are you in?

[He stares back at Harry, taken aback. It's one thing to be told it's your destiny to bring magic back to Albion, and quite another to be told you've not only succeeded, but are remembered a thousand years later for it.]
