[The image on the video feed is a little shaky.  It depicts a woman in her mid-twenties sitting awkwardly--like she doesn't quite know how to arrange her limbs--on a chair in one of the dug-outs with a coarse brown blanket over her shoulders.  Her long, brown hair is loose on her shoulders; an untied ribbon hangs limply in the thick ponytail. [since he's being weird about showing his face, for now she can just listen to Zelman being very calm about all this.]

Lucky for you, it sounds like there's no need to rush. No one's really going anywhere until the Darkness is gone.

[she's not too put off by the strange calm--in fact, his even-tempered response helps distract her from her anxiety at being cold and alone and etc.]

I'd say that's good, but this darkness that I keep hearing about sounds quite treacherous. Can I ask what you know about it? Why does it happen?

I'm afraid I don't know very much. I'd only just arrived yesterday. What I do know is that it's a phenomena that occurs when the sun goes down that somehow transforms the environment into a much more... decayed and dilapidated version of itself. It also brings a plethora of monsters with it, and it sounds like the nastiest ones are always the ones you have the unfortunate trouble of running into out there.

It goes away in the morning like nothing had ever happened. People have ways of keeping buildings sealed so that the Darkness doesn't get in too, since this has been happening for a while around here... something about the original Core malfunction is supposedly the cause.

[and he sounds rather thoughtful while he's saying all this; he's probably reciting it for his own benefit just as much as hers.]

[Lucrecia listens carefully to this rundown--it's the most detailed set of answers she's received yet, and she's grateful.]

Core malfunction, huh ... I wonder why such a device was built at all?

[The notion of a fellow doctor on the telenetwork pings the kindly old Dutchmen.]

Madam, you have been met with a strange misfortune. But fret not, you are amongst friends, even if you know them not by name yet.

[He sounds so gallant! The warmth is evident in her voice; she's definitely feeling bolstered by the kind reception she's gotten so far.]

Everyone has been so open and helpful. [far more kind to you than you deserve, she thinks to herself suddenly, but she manages to keep that unpleasantness out of her happy tone.] It's certainly distracted me from the fretting!

Can I ask for your name, sir?

[For one so fair, it is only of nature's course, ja?]

As many would be, for you see they were once in your identical predicament, even myself.

[Could he bow as the gentlemen he was, he would. Being a man of the Victorian era, this was of course his first encounter with a Doctor of the fairer-sex.]

I am Professor Van Helsing, primary anthropologist und metaphysicist. My blessing to acquaint you, Madam Crescent.

[Though there was a number more of the string of letters attached to his name, he wasn't about to bore the poor women after what she's been through.]

[she's thoroughly charmed! Her voice is warm when she responds.]

I have some background in metaphysics myself, Professor! My main discipline was biochemistry and its technological applications, but I did some significant research into metaphysical theories. [theories that laid the groundwork for a number of terrible tragedies back home, but she's trying not to think about that.]

[Oh that name sounds familiar. He thought Dr. Crescent was dead; apparently not, or at least not at this time. How annoying.]

This is far from a dream, I promise you that Dr. Crescent. Has anyone informed you of the apartments for newcomers yet?

[she doesn't recognize the voice--Rufus was born after her time--and since everyone's been so friendly she decides she has no reason to think otherwise of him. She maintains her sunny, slightly anxious tone.]

Yes, a little--it seems I won't be able to remain there for long, though.

[He doesn't know much about her beyond the fact her name's listed on the JENOVA Project himself, but he really can't have unethical scientists his company is responsible for running around unchecked lmfao what is jumping to conclusions. So... He'll have to do something about this.]

Long enough. We should meet; I believe I might be of some assistance to you.

Dr. Lucrecia Crescent, I'm so pleased to see that you are receiving some of the the assistance you need♪
Urahara Kisuke, humble soon-to-be-shopkeeper, at your service~♥

Although I arrived here not long ago, I've been amazed with the variety of talented people who have come here. At your leisure I hope that you might tell me more about your research.♥

[Lucrecia is a little disarmed by his sugary-sweet tone! She leans forward uncertainly, though still smiling.]

It's wonderful to make your acquaintance, Urahara. My own thesis was particular to the world I come from--it had to do with the awakening of ancient lifeforms and mechanisms created by our planet. So ... you can see why I would wonder so much about this Core I keep hearing about.

[He can't help it. She's a lovely lady, and a scientist to boot.♥]

Fascinating~♥ Yes, the Core is certainly at the center of interest here. Even though your research was particular to your planet, I'm certain that some of it will find use here♪
