[Amongst all of the somber voices on the network today, Sarina is a bit of a contrast, as her usual confused expression flashes on the video feed. Oh, she was most definitely going to be having some WORDS with Mr. Hypocrite if he came back, but by now she was almost used to people disappearing that she spoke with to be too terribly bothered by the ( Read more... )

Ah, drinking to excess. At least that's one tradition that hasn't changed much over the years. You'd probably have had a happier New Year if you didn't drink so much to make yourself sick the next day.

Moderation is the key! And anyway, that's only one day out of the year that you weren't feeling well. Wishing someone a 'Happy New Year' is wishing all three hundred and someodd days of the year to be happy.

[ And a bemused grin. Combatant Kitten. ] Unfortunately I never had a pet fish, so I can't help you there. Why not look around in the pet shop?

And Happy New Year to you too, Sarina.

Oh~! oH .. No no Sorry, I though -- nevermind.

Breathing fire would be something huh? Eheh. I'm just fascinated by the things you can accomplish with magic, is all.

I can kind of make fire myself...but it's only because of-- [She paused, knowing that people always had to ask about what she was going to talk about...but oh well, they were friends right?] --because of my nanomachines. It's not a natural ability and it's a pretty weak flame.

It's fascinating to me too~! Nearly everyone had to be given their abilities, where I'm from. So to be able to gain that kind of power just from reading...it's kind of cool! Like something you'd read in a fable, or something!

You can? [ She pauses at the hesitation. ] Nanomachines? That's ... [ She reaches for a small dictionary on her table. ]

Some kind of technology right? [ Weak or not, if she needs some smores she's calling you up! *.* ]

Haha, [ Ella shakes her head. ] I hear that about my world a lot - that it's like something out of a fairy tale, I mean. I think I'm going to have to check the fairy tales that are of this modern age. They should be good for a laugh - or an insult depending on who wrote it.

I can...but only under really uh - specific circumstances.

Yeah, they're tiny little machines that fit in your bloodstream. They enhance your abilities.

Heheh -- yeah, I bet it'd be fun to read stories written about your time. At least they're usually good stories, right?

[Not like the stories that people told about her.]

Specific like how? [ Go on LB, how are you going to put an interesting spin on that one? :3 ]

It doesn't hurt, having little machines running through your bloodstream like that? [ pause. ] Though actually, if they're that small they're probably not even noticeable. Like bacteria, or germs or something.

[ ... OHGOD SOMETHING IS CRAWLING ON M-- oh wait no it isn't. She rubs her arms absently. ]

Welll... I guess it would depend on who you ask. I don't know if you've ever heard of this one - Have you ever read the story Jack and the Beanstalk?

[UH.]

I...have to be crouched down! It only activates then!

[It was...mostly the truth?]

It doesn't hurt, no. A little weird to get used to, at first -- heeheehee -- the shot itself is probably the most painful part.

["Probably", since she was unconscious, at the time.]

I've heard of it, yes. [Blink. Blink.] Why do you ask?

You ... have to be ...crouched down. [ It's not that she doesn't believe you, Sarina, that's just ... really weird. ]

I guess it's convenient if you need to start a campfire. Not very practical for if defending yourself though, I guess. [ Except when setting people on fiar. ]

[ Another shiver. She'd never want something like that shot into her, thanks. You can KEEP your nanos. ] Word of advice - never mention anything written by the Grimm Brothers to a giant. They were so interested in making the story of the giants fantastic and entertaining, they ended up insulting all of the giants.

I'm ... fairly sure if one of the Grimm brothers ever met one of the giants back home, they would get stepped on. Or close enough to it.

'Fee fi fo fum' is just the biggest pile of hogwash to grace the pages of a children's story.

Yeah...heehee... [She makes a weird expression.] ...it ah really kind of sucks for self-defense.

[WHAT WAS WITH ALL OF THESE COMPROMISING POSITION ABILITIES ANYWAY.]

[She stared, confused at the screen.] That's...a joke, right?

Well, yeah, a little. I'm pretty sure the giant wouldn't stomp on a respected author. He might hang 'em from a ceiling fan though. Depending on how annoyed they are...

So...giants -- as in actual people that are big -- they actually exist in your world? Heehee? They're not machines?

[A beat.]

Well, of course they're not machines.

How tall were they, really?

[Video] of_frell January 1 2011, 14:32:36 UTC
[ A blink. ] Machines? No, they're actual...living, breathing people, same as you or I. Just....really, really big.

You have giant machines in your world? [ As for how tall... good question. ] Oh, I never got their full height, to be honest. But if I had to guess, I'd say ... thirty feet tall, to fifty feet, Maybe.

That tall?! Eeehee?!

[Calming from her initial shock, she continued.]

Yeah, there's these things called Gekkos, that run all over the place with troops, eheh! They're probably...ten to twenty feet tall? Their legs look real, but the rest of them are clearly machine. They uh also moo, like cows!

Oh, and I guess there's a couple of really big machines called Metal Gears, but -- heheh -- they're far more rare. People fight wars to obtain them, really!

Reply

[Video] of_frell January 1 2011, 22:35:38 UTC
[ Ella chuckled at the shocked reaction. ] Well they are giants.

... Gekkos.. aren't those the names of lizards too? So you have things named after lizards, that are half mechanical, but ... moo.

And people say my world is strange. [ Another grin, that fades slightly. ]

... hn. People fight wars for everything in every world it seems. Back home, we're at peace, but ... there have been wars fought over territory. [ And worse. ]

It's a little strange to even me, to be honest, haha.

The Metal Gears are the ultimate device in holding militant power over other factions, heehee -- I think I mentioned to you before on how military power is treasured above everything else, where I'm from.

But no matter where you are, it seems like power is a valuable tool.
