Earth? But, why, I've never heard of 'C.E.' There's a B.C. and an A.D., which is where I come from. 1893 A.D., to be exact. ... Does it change? Later?

1893. You must have been in for quite a culture shock.
And, yes. B.C. and A.D. still get used in common parlance, but academics use 'C.E.' for 'Common Era' and 'B.C.E.' for 'Before Common Era.' They're the exact same thing, though, I know because I taught an art history course not too long ago.
