[When Franziska first turns on her NV, there's nothing but the sound of her fingers persistently drumming against a tabletop; as she speaks, her voice is even, measured -- she's taken the matter under hefty consideration, after all.]

I was wondering how one may go about acquiring a gun in this place.

[ ... openly curious, this one. ]

What is a gun?

[ he's seriously serious. after a moment, he clarifies: ]

From the way you speak of it, I believe I may assume it is a weapon of some kind, but it is not one I have heard of.

[ ah, that again. ]

I have heard this place appears to grant powers to those who have none, though I have seen no evidence of it myself.

[ beat. ]

Might you not simply find a companion?

Hmph. Like a bodyguard? I see no need to be dependent on other people, nor the time to waste waiting hoping that I'll suddenly develop powers simply because others have.

A guard may offer assistance in more than self-defense. [ speaking as someone who was one, he should know! ] Two pairs of eyes and ears will be able to sense a threat far more quickly, and two pairs of hands will accomplish work more efficiently-- will they not?

[ his ears twitch, restlessly. ]

If the prospect of a guard seems so unappealing to you, why not an ally instead? One you might call your equal. If matters should come to blows, at the very least there will be another to watch your back, even if you may be outnumbered.

Then you will will simply have to find someone whose will to live-- and skill-- is strong enough to keep them alive.

[ the tone of his voice changes subtly, more determination in that, before it gentles again. ]

I take it you have heard there are no true deaths here?

Hmph. While some return from the dead, apparently, others do not. I would not assume it to be a certain circumstance.

A wise view to take.

I refuse to die in this place. I will not be made to owe it anything.

What would make you think you owe it something?

What is the price of a life?

[ he shakes his head. ]

I would not think being brought back from death would be a boon without a cost.

What would be the cost, then?

[ ... ]

I've heard it said that the monsters here may be formed from the spirits of the dead.

...Is there any basis to that rumor?

At the least, it seems to be a popular rumor. I am no medium, to converse with spirits, and so I lack the experience or the ability to determine it myself.

Others, however, may have it.

Hmph. It doesn't matter, really: I think I'll focus on not dying.
