[ By now, the knight's accustomed himself to some of the oddities of living in this city. Most of it is still alien to him, really, but he's learning to deal with it well enough.

It's night-time by now, and it's hardly the best time to ask this-- but on the other hand, perhaps it is the best time to ask this, considering people are less likely to ( Read more... )

You must be one of the newer...[People? Is it an insult to call a non-human that? He opts for a safer word of discretion] immigrants here, to have never heard of me speaking about Romdeau before.

The world, the surface world, in the age I am from...there is no life, on the outside- small, limited pockets of life, but most of the world is wasteland, too toxic to support much of an ecosystem stable for plants, animals. There was a world-wide crisis of the environment, hundreds of years ago, and as such, humanity was confined to an artificially constructed existence under self-sustaining dome cities.

[ admittedly, it takes him some time to mentally work through all that. Fratley wouldn't take it as an insult if it were not intended as such, but then, Daedalus hardly knows him enough to know that. And so...]

Your world sounds, perhaps, a little like mine-- though we live under the sky, and nothing like these "domes" you speak of. I can hardly conceive of a world so barren that nothing could grow on it. Even the greatest desert has some form of life in it.

There was a constant cloud cover, and so sunlight never touched the ground. The air was also contaminated.

A world whose surface the sun could not touch...? [ he sounds... terribly curious about that. ]

Where did you get air and light, then?

Redefine your question, for it is far too broad to be given a simple answer!

My apologies. [ he sounds sincere enough about that. ] How would you like me to redefine it?

[She is already being reminded of one too many an unco-operative witness.]

Specify.

How would you describe your world to someone who has never been there, but wished to know about it? Would you speak of its people, its weather, or its food? Do you enjoy it there?

One needn't answer all those, of course, but I hope that clarifies the question.

Unusual in its own right, I guess - if you know where to look.

The unusual aspects of it take a trained eye to see?

You could say that.

People are the most profound beings in the world. In that aspect, I suppose each world is similar yet unique.

How about you? What do you like of your world?

I see.

What do I like about it? [ he has to think about that. ] ... The sky, I suppose.

I see.

Is it a peaceful world, then?

Utopia.

[moving on quick enough.]

Are people of your species the only dominating ones in your world?

[ a blink at that rapid change of topic. ]

Ah. Hardly so. As I understand it, Burmecia is one of the smaller kingdoms of the Mist Continent, though she can defend her borders well enough. [ ... usually, anyway. ]

Each Kingdom consists of a different species? Is there any crossing of races, as well as borders? [brace yourself for the. questions.]

THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION by_your_leave September 21 2010, 03:05:51 UTC
[ he takes a moment to think about that... ]

No. Burmecia is the exception. Other cities-- Lindblum, Treno, and... [ his tone darkens a little. ] Alexandria-- are larger, and consequently composed of a greater variety of individuals.
