What do you mean 'they haul people off all the time'? You mean they kidnap people? Who?

Actually I'm an attorney. You...don't have much faith in other people, do you?

And a bloody genius as well, give the man a prize. D'you know much about the investigations that go on here? Whether it's lawyers or police officers or anyone, there's nothing gained and nothing learned.

See that's what I mean. You just don't have any faith in anyone other than yourself. I get it. I've seen the kind of things that can be overlooked even when people think they've got their eyes open. Still, there's never any harm in a second look or another pair of eyes, and if you don't ask for help you're just...giving up on him.

[Maybe not the best thing to say in the circumstances, but it's sort of true. Worst of all, he knows the kind of guilt and self-blame that'll come after that.]

I'm not giving up on him. I wouldn't ever-- I'm going to do everything I bloody well can to find him. But I'm going to do it. Seems as if everyone else is looking for someone these days, yeah? If you want to play hero so badly, go ask one of them. What's it you would do for me, anyways, you've just arrived, you haven't any contacts or--or anything!

But don't say that I'm giving up, because I'm not.
