Well, there's the orchard, you know. And I bet that wouldn't be a bad idea to ask the city about. I think the earth is still healing from the radiation.

I was imagining something somewhat closer to hand.

The earth is likely still somewhat poisoned, true. {but there's always Lexaeus to consult about that. who'd know but the Nobody whose province is earth?} Tests would need to be run. Perhaps a cover laid down, and fresh earth moved in. After all, the ground in a vacant lot might not be suitable for cultivation even in its base state.

Just as well, since the orchard's off limits.

Do you have any particular lot in mind, Minas? Or...an idea of where one could be best placed?

Something closer to hand, and something that was our own property, indeed.

No. I do not have any sites case or particular plans in motion to find a place to cultivate a garden.

Indeed, we would have to be particularly careful with any land the city would be willing to allot to us.

How unfortunate... perhaps we could find some locals willing to reinforce the effort. Of course, likely the government would bother as little to preserve them as it does us.

I believe the government would respond better to its citizens than it does to us.

I sometimes wonder, given the situation of some denizens of this city. We are living on an island, after all. Space is limited, the population can only spread so far.

Any certain type of cheese?

Perhaps contrasting flavors? Brie, and something sharper?

[that won't be difficult.]

I'll purchase it after work.

Splendid. Whatever else should happen to capture your eye, as well. We also need more noodles and rice; there's quite a bit of shopping to do, if you cared to get it all out of the way. If not, there should be time over the weekend.

That's...a very practical suggestion, yes. Perhaps the newcomers could do something with the 'outfield'.

Perhaps it would even afford a chance for newcomers to build more camaraderie. Some of us could sorely use the opportunity, I suppose.

That might be helpful for establishing a sense of community, yes.

Have you gardened before?

You know how to garden?

Is it such a surprise?

I didn't think you'd have much chance to practice.

[The castle was not very organic.]
