Why not? I am.
...
Tch, you're welcome.
As a matter of fact, I have. It was a little bit of a bitch to track down, but I managed to find a copy of رجال في الشمس lying around. But I assume you meant in English. I've also been reading Dick Sands, by Jules Verne, and I'm rereading War and Peace.

...nowhere in any world will be different. Why does it bother you?
It's about a fifteen year old sailor who's left in charge while the crew go off to hunt whales. Unfortunately for them, they're idiots and they die, and he has to take charge of the ship on his own, along with a group of untrained survivors from a shipwreck. It's an interesting read.

...why? Even a civilian has to fear intruders. Thieves, rapists, their own family turning on them. Nobody can be trusted, not even the closest of relatives.
It's a good read. Do enjoy it. What are you studying?
That might be true. You can't predict how stuff's going to turn out most of the time. Just the same, I think most people have to trust someone sometimes, or they'll become crazy. Or ruthless.
Right now I'm catching up on Canadian History and literature, mostly. I'm actually ahead of my grade level for stuff like math and science, but I want to make sure I'm not behind on anything when school starts up again. I'm also taking a photography course.
Maybe not crazy, but ruthless, sure. Not letting your guard down for a moment... even animals need to lie down sometimes. Even animals trust their mates and families.

Being ruthless isn't a bad thing. I would sooner be paranoid and safe than lower my guard. Trusting your family is only a good thing when that family is not known for trying to kill one another.
I used to think attempted murder was a really unusual thing in families. Maybe not.
I'm not saying trust your family no matter what or anything that stupid. But sooner or later, you should find someone you can trust. Otherwise, it'll be too much of a stress.
In spite of your ruthless nature, I know you would have looked after me because Jack asked you to. So I think you're probably a really loyal person at heart, which means I trust you. That's not to say I'm about to become your best friend, or that I'm not wary of you. But because of that quality - because you're willing to talk to me and not patronize me - I consider you to be trustworthy enough to speak with on the matter of Yagami. On the other hand, it's not like I'm going to share all my personal feelings with you. There are levels.

It is actually rather unusual, as far as I know. However, we were never a "family" before we came here, and even here, it is a tentative thing at best.
I will try. Stress does not bother me, but there are people that I might be able to trust, if I can figure out how.
I am not loyal to Father. I am loyal to myself, first and foremost. And I do not expect you to share everything with me. That would be reckless and foolish, neither of which you are. But I am grateful for your limited trust.
Well, I promise I won't try to murder you. I'm against violence.
I think everyone is loyal to themselves first and foremost. If they're not, they should be. If you're only following what's best for others, you can't be true to yourself.

Do you know why Jack brought him into our home?

[He has, but he's not telling anyone about that conversation.]
I wouldn't turn your back on him. Paranoia is the best way to go if you wish to survive.

But I think you're right. Thanks for your input, Liquid.

I've never heard of that Jules Verne novel - just the famous ones. What's it about?

The book sounds pretty interesting. Maybe I'll grab it from the library when I'm done with my summer homework.
