One must frankly question who, precisely, edits these newspapers. Or when it was that the principle of journalistic integrity was lost. But truly, let half-veiled implications stand in the place of facts - indeed, in the place of a sense of responsibility to the truth. Far more exciting.

Maybe the newspapers work differently, here.

-- Uh, Japanese. I learned some English from high school, but, haha... And I know a bit of Italian.

But you are speaking English now.

And journalistic integrity is a constant. It does not change from city to city.

Born and raised American! So, I speak English, and a few random words of Chinese. Oh, and I can swear in Japanese.

And the newspapers? If they bother you that much, stop readin' 'em. It's what I did. You can find out more by listening to people.

They're a valuable source of information, though. For all that they contain few facts. Besides which, I'm not going to cease reading something merely because it bothers me; avoiding something merely because it is distasteful is cowardly indeed.

Where are you from?

From America. Duh. And if you're not going to avoid it, then why complain? You're putting a lot of annoyance on your shoulders that you don't need.

Me? I prefer findin' my own info.

Yes. Understood. Where in America.

And because by virtue of being in the public realm, the newspaper is subject to criticism.

Integrity doesn't sell as much as entertainment. And I don't think you'll find anyone much caring about a newcomer's observations of the lack thereof.

No, it does not. But that does not mean that journalists do not have a responsibility to the truth.

[lightly.] It might not be as much of a concern for the folks doing the reporting around here.

[beat.] Ah. And my native language is Japanese. Almost forgot your other question, there.

Then they are not true journalists at all.

How long have you studied English?

It's not that simple. People write down whatever the hell they want as truth. It's about what they want to hear and believe, not what they know to be fact. There are just as many truths as there are people; each person perceiving and judging their world and its influence, actions and reactions differently. What is considered injustice by you might be the opposite for me. And of course, I'd be either considered a criminal or a hero.

Bilingual. Japanese at home, English everywhere else.

Most people are in the habit of telling as much truth as it suits them.

I speak Chinese. I don't speak any Western languages. I'm terrible at studying. [ laugh ]

A useless generalization. What language are you speaking right now?

I answered a question you had, I'm sorry if the answer didn't suit you~

I suppose I'm speaking Chinese. Or what passes for it.
