[In the park today, a sleeping puppy in his lap, Light looks peaceful, hair lifted by a light breeze. He's out here to get away from everything going on at the house, and the peace and quiet has let him think. The sunshine coming in through the leafy canopy that shades him casts his face in mottled light and shadow, and makes his vermillion shirt ( Read more... )

A "warrior for the future." Well - since you talked about nothing but the past, truly, do share. What is your grand vision?

I am not self-destructive. I merely do not bow to threats.

In this place they're the same thing.

You shouldn't think that way, but you should leave enforcing the law to people who're better suited, or - I don't know - crow less about it. Call the police on dangerous people, fine, but don't threaten them with it. If they've broken the law just do it; you have no responsibility to warn them, or justify yourself.

Slink about in the shadows, then. Be subtle about enforcing justice.

Justice should not be done subtly, lest it be forgotten.

Warning people who have sinned before you set the police on them only means that they have a chance to cover up their mistakes or flee. Your warning means hesitation, and it can be taken advantage of, such as with the laptop.

I did not precisely anticipate you wiping the damned hard drive. I'd thought that L actually was your friend, as you had claimed. I overestimated you.

L was my challenger, my player. He didn't want me or anyone to read that laptop, thus there was no evidence there that could have helped him out, or found him justice.

It was just a game; an encryption so dense that it would drive me to the end of my tether to try and decipher it, constantly changing, an enigma brought to life by the greatest detective of the last century just to keep me busy.

It was all I had left of his mind. A gunshot took him away and I don't expect I'll ever see him again, but that's...not the point here. You could have had it, but you gave me time, and I'm not the only one.

He was taken by the companies, not the police. Such a thing should be illegal--no, it should be where justice begins. It's a basic human right that you not be unlawfully detained. But it's in the law here so you dance around it and play nice.

Change it. You and me, Edgeworth, we could.
