In 1972, on Friday the 13th of October, a plane carrying a rugby team crashed on the peak of a mountain on the boarder of Chile and Argentina. Many of the passengers died, but those that did survive for the 72 days they were stranded ended up doing so by resorting to cannibalism, eating the dead bodies of their friends and family members. It wasn't ( Read more... )

I once made cream of fungus soup, does that count for anything? I was on a ship going nowhere for 50 years unable to die, and yet at the same time dying of hunger.

Not only does that sound gross, it sounds terrible. Not exactly a taboo though.

You're immortal?

To some extent. I believe there are a few things that still might be able to kill me, but I haven't died since the first time, and can survive things most human beings would not be able to.

Interesting. So what can you survive?

So there is honor in saving your own life?

Is it something you consider important?

Most treat it with importance. A thing of value, easily broken.

Well said. There are very few things I believe are more important than my own survival, but I do have my pride.

Would you have much of an option?

To an extent, everyone has one I think.

That's true.

Though it's near impossible to answer those questions if you've never been in the situation yourself. What would you choose if you crashed there?

The case I used was merely an example to illustrate a question. I was wondering to what extent people would be willing to go to survive here.

What would I choose? Probably what the survivors did. You see, all the survivors were devout Catholics. They didn't act as ravenous animals, they kept their humanity by showing as much respect as they could for the dead and, to keep their sanity, compared their taboo act to that of eating the body and flesh of Christ.

In short, I'd do what I'd need to to survive. I won't die until it's my time to and until I'm willing to bite the dust.

Were they prosecuted for it?

I don't believe they were.

I wasn't. It's extremely old news but no less relevant. I thought it'd be a good example to use to pose a few questions.
