[Here's a guy. He's at home at the moment, but appears to be wearing the uniform that employees wear at a supermarket. Save a world, work a cash register, that's life. But that isn't why he's here.Something occurred to me the other day. We've all assumed we're from different worlds, but is that necessarily true? Worlds tend to be big places, so isn ( Read more... )

Not my home world. I came from a place that probably doesn't even count as in a world.

That's unfortunate. What do you mean, though, doesn't count as a world?

It was a place in-between. That's how Riku explained it, anyway.

How... strange. Er, no offense intended.

[Dipping into some sci-fi fantasy knowledge here!] So you're from some kind of astral plane?

My world was very much like this one, except there were certain technologies absent, and of course Siren's Port and its...odd citizens. The most notable difference, though, is the absence of Kira, whom nobody here has heard of.

It appears we're very likely from differing worlds then, you and I, at least. I've never heard of this 'Kira.'

It's more than just likely, if you haven't heard of him.

I take it he was a very important celebrity from your world?

Unlikely. The details which diverge from one individual's world to another are too significant to allow for more than perhaps a few coming from the same world.

Ah. That's too bad, then. Several of my own friends have made it here, but aside from them, it's too difficult to tell if anyone from my specific world has been brought over. [A pause.] Maybe... some people act as a beacon, drawing others with them? Or specific points in their worlds are weak enough that people from one locale are pulled?

Many people have significant geographical differences between them at the time of being brought here; locale is likewise not a factor.

There's still something to be said for people that inexplicably do know each other from home. There are billions of people on the Earth I'm from, why was I and so many of my friends taken? Aren't the odds of all of us appearing astronomically low without something influencing them?

Earth-- we even had bouts've disappearances and shit back home, but I ain't heard've a lotta the stuff here.

Technology's mostly the same, though.

Disappearances? What kind?

Aside from the technology, this place is remarkably similar to my Earth. The NVs, in particular... if a way to duplicate them could be found and brought back, we could change a lot of worlds with them.

Just people goin' missing or ending up sick or dead.

What, with the damn internet? Guess so. Might be a bit've a leap for some've them, though.

I suppose every world has to deal with that kind of thing. Mine had a lot of supernatural reasons, though.

That's true. Back home was approaching this technology level, but this thing is a couple generations ahead, definitely. If there was any way to drag it back, it'd be a revolution overnight.

[A French accent? Odd.]

Ah, so you're used to traveling between worlds, then?

Well, you certainly don't appear to have let your latest dimension hop bring your mood down.
