Understandable to a degree. You are ... different.

There is no way to make that sort of choice, because it doesn't exist. Peace is an illusion you can hope for, but never achieve in reality. As you said yourself, it's been like this since humanity set foot on earth. Peace isn't a natural state for society, which is why there are laws to begin with.

All you can do, in the end, is to try your best and be loyal to yourself. If I knew I could prevent the end of the world, then I'd do everything in my power to do that. However, for that purpose other sacrifices might become necessary -- it's the same old question if you'd rather kill a person and save thousands or kill no one and watch everyone die. No, you can't achieve peace -- balance -- without making sacrifices. And after a while, the process just repeats itself.

Hence, the illusion of peace.

Even with the knowledge of the past repeating itself, you would do something rather than watch the world burn.

Then you live the illusion, anyway. Will this satisfy you?

Would it matter, in the end? People are never satisfied, or if they are, not for long.

Do you know the saying, "Everyone is a pacifist between wars. It's like being a vegetarian between meals."

It's just like that. If you are as old as you sound, you should already know how hypocritical humankind is.

Hypocritical, arrogant, greedy, possibly the biggest monstrosity in existence. But also the most beautiful because of their flaws. I suppose ... it is because of the hope they can carry in them, this will that does not die, repetitive that ... somehow makes you want to forgive them anyway.

You men ... you try so hard.

I would and I wouldn't regret it.

You've been in such a position before?

Bow to the darkness? If you can take that power up for yourself, control how you use it, then it isn't bowing to anything.

Or something I regret.

It would take a greater will to control such a power. I would put faith in a person that they can conquer it ... is all about choosing. From how I've seen humans function, it is so easy to be ... swayed.

Regret is inevitable.

Some of us have stronger hearts than others. I choose to use destruction when there are things that need to be destroyed...and maybe I've gone overboard with it on the wrong people before.

But I don't regret feeling how I did then. That isn't something to mope about now, 'cause I can't go back and change it.

So you are focusing on the future instead ...

You have to make your own fate. There's no room for regretting it. If you know what you need to do, even if it's not what you're supposed to do, you need to do it.

Up to what end? Regrets does not go away, from what ... I've seen. They linger.

It's your responsibility to make the right decision. If you don't, then you messed up and you deal with the consequences. There's no point in brooding about it.

Consequences and repercussions - so just keep moving forward then? That seems to be a logical course of action. Work towards the future instead of dwelling on the past.
