[ It's rare that Amalthea will lower herself to resorting to human form these days, but it became necessary, sad to say. That is, necessary because her employers insisted that she be inside for the duration of the snowstorm. Probably still guilty over accidentally shooting her and all, a year ago. ]
I am loathe to admit such, but I require ( Read more... )

Would you be willing to display this paper over video? I can't read many languages, but I've had enough exposure to enough languages to at least make a good guess at what language it is.

I'm afraid I have not seen your companion.

There is no harm in such an action.

[ She pauses to reach over for the paper, smoothing it neatly, and then holds it up in front of the NV. Hers is a mirror, so it's easy to align it. ]

Will this suffice?

[ It's written in plain ol' English, natch, and the extent of the writing basically reads that her services as shepherdess are no longer required. Apparently the owners are elderly and they have been getting some pressure from the Anti Newcomer sentiment in the city when they found out she was working for them. So they're giving her two weeks to find other arrangements before she's going to have to leave since room and board had been included with the job. ]

Yes.

[A short pause while Emma reads the paper.]

My dear, I'm sorry, but what it says is that your employers don't want you working for them and they want you to move out within two weeks.

Do you have a place to go?

[ She withdraws the paper. ]

Have I offended them in some way? They have not address any concerns with me before.

I ...do, yes. I must admit I have remained in this other place more frequently than in their domicile. It is of more comfort to me.

A spider... dog? That sounds like one of the Darkness monsters.

It is a common misconception. I fear had I been unable to reach him he may have become such a creature. It is due to the involvement of the place known as SERO that he is as he is, for he was once a simple canine.

Woah! That's nuts!

Well, if I see any spider dogs while I'm flying around I'll let you know!

Indeed it is ...nuts. [ What weird slang. ]

I thank you, but surely it is not safe to fly in such weather?

I haven't seen your companion. I'm sorry.

[ And Cambria does seem genuinely sad about this--she likes to help when she can, and this whole place has her more confused than she'd like. ]

You need not be apologetic. I did not truly suspect he would allow himself to be seen by others, given his appearance. I will simply seek him out on my own in due time.

I thank you for your swift response, maiden.

[ Maiden? Colour Cambria flattered, and visibly so--she clears her throat, tucking her hair behind her ear. ]

Sorry I couldn't have been any help. But if I see him I'll definitely let you know. Name's Cambria.

[ She's over a hundred years old. You're what, 30? 40? Still a kid compared to her. ]

Well met, ...Cambria. I am Amalthea.

[ Hooray, she's getting better at introductions! Though she keeps forgetting to add 'Lady'. She considers for a moment, decides it is unimportant right now. ]

If you do see him, I caution you not to approach.

[ The matter of speaking sounds familiar with Aurican, but he has yet to connect the dots. ]

I have not seen your companion, fair lady. Where have you last saw him?

He dwelled within the domicile I was permitted to remain in for the duration of my employment. Near the forests to the north of the island.

You mean you can't read? [Headscratch.] Uh. Well, I can read it to you if you want.

...But I definitely haven't seen a giant spider.

I cannot. Your assistance would be most appreciated. [ Also she sees you haven't committed yourself to the mental hospital yet. That's good! ]

I admit I am relieved to know this. I feared for the worst should he have ventured near others.

[Not yet, anyway. Give it time!] Sure. It's no trouble. Uh, can you hold it up to the screen? And yeah, giant bugs generally don't get warm welcomes from people, you know?

He was not always as such. It is humans who caused him to become such a creature.
