Voice ---> Video | Life handed us a paycheck and we said, "... We worked harder than this!"

Jan 18, 2012 02:11

[There's the sound of rustling far too close to a microphone, as if a thumb is being rubbed across it, mixed with ambient noise. The thudding of heavy footsteps and heavier breathing, the clatter of a glass bottle, the squeaking of some unholy thing in the dark. In fact, it sounds suspiciously like the Master is butt-dialing you ( Read more... )

[Oh, there are all sorts of people willing to give him a hand, aren't there? The Master merely laughs in response to the question, though, his body phasing out to a grinning skeleton for a brief moment as he does.]

[Well, that's...un...nerving. He stares, horrified, a moment, then steels himself:]

Are you unable to reply?

Oh, I can reply. I can do all sorts of things. But I will admit it's getting harder these days to pull myself together.

[Another burst of laughter, and another flash of bone]

It's funny, isn't it? Isn't it?

[ Oh ... 'kay then. She's not understanding a word of that, but it's pretty clear by the end of it who and what he wants. ]

How do you know the Doctor? What do you mean he used you?

[Ah, now here's an opportunity. The Master feels free not to correct her misinterpretation.]

Don't you know? He uses everyone in the end. Uses them up and tosses them away.

Actually, no. I don't know. [ She's standing firm in defending the Doctor, okay. ] But you didn't answer my question. How do you know him?

How do you think?

Stick with him long enough, and he'll show you himself.

[No. No no no no no. Of all the people to be pulled out of their timestream, to end up here. It had to be him. The Master. The Master. His friend and enemy and the man who'd died rather than travel the universe, a prisoner in his TARDIS but there with him.

Of course he'd show up here. Of course.]

Master.

[All other conversations are put on hold-- this is the man he really wanted to see. The Master leans in close, eager.]

Doctor.

Miss me?

After you stuck me in a cage and tried to destroy all of humanity?

[There's something different about the Master, and he doesn't jut mean the bad bleach job. There's something in his eyes...]

Would it make a difference if I had?

[Ah, memories]

Oh, come on. They were practically made to be destroyed.

Besides, I was only giving them what they wanted.

[He conspicuously ignores the second question. Does it really need to be answered?]

[ He feels his presence almost immediately, almost as if the entire world has somehow shifted and nothing is as it should be. Or everything is precisely as it once was. He feels the presence of another Time Lord.

He doesn't even need to reach for his NV to know which Time Lord it is, but he does it all the same. And there he is just as he remembers him. Frantic. Broken. Urging him to get out of the way as he brought down the Time Lords' last hope of salvation. Their last hope for the end of time.

Well. ...Leave it too the Master to ruin a perfectly good date. ]

[ His... previous self doesn't know it yet. He can't know it yet. But he does. He remembers.

He even remembers how he (unintentionally or no) saved his life. And that's something he cannot quite forget.

When he turns on the NV, he's composed as he can be, even if he's probably going to break out into a frantic run any second. ]

I should have known that not even the end of time would stop you.

[ It never has. ]

Yes. You should have.

[Of course, he's never seen or heard this incarnation of the Doctor before, but it doesn't take much of a stretch to guess this may well be the other one Rose Tyler spoke of. He peers at the projected image, scrutinizing with a critical frown.]

I guess you could say time itself hasn't been kind to either of us.

[ What does he say? What else can he say? Here was the Master, The Master, not quite whole but still here.

After everything...

He'll just reply as normally as he can. ]

Oh, I don't know about that. Apart from almost being erased from existence, I'd say I've had a good go at things.

Comparatively speaking.
