[There's a familiar scream, and an all-too-familiar Prosecutor roaring in pain, the white of his eyes wide with rage. Definitely not one of his better moments…Though luckily the audio feed cuts rather quickly, and when the next NV function is used, an older man with a scowl is staring directly at the screen, sitting calmly in the dugout with his

As it turns out, the talking house isn't the only strange thing the Core has brought into the city amongst the wave of recent arrivals.
It has also brought her father.
She watches the broadcast once, twice, three times, and even after the third that is all, nothing about it seems quite real. Maybe she's seeing things, but is that an alternative she really wants to consider, especially with no external factors such as Core-induced dreaming or mystical superpowers? Or maybe she's fallen asleep, but she feels too awake, as though every nerve in her body is reminding her of just how painfully alive she is, and that it is this city currently binds her reality. She's ( ... )

[There. That's a satisfying starting point -- she's going to deconstruct his arguments just the way he taught her how.]

Quite naturally he did not recognize the "feed" of whomever had sent the message, for the functions of NVs were still, at best, new to him. He would find out. Eventually.
But as he reads this post there is something which disappoints him. If what was said was true then he wouldn't be able to give them the death penalty. Pity.]
How might a machine be responsible for bringing me here? I'll see that that so-called machine is permanently deactivated, melted down, and made into something more respectable.

Because he is my father, Manfred von Karma.
At least, so far, he was behaving in a rather predictable manner.]
Doing that could potentially cause the deaths of everyone on the island.
[She sends that message first, and realizes what she should amend it with, a vicious twinge of anxiety and vindictiveness twisting at the bottom of her stomach.]
Including yourself, sir.

Larry reacts the only way Larry Butz would ever react to something like this. He slams the voice button on his NV and proceeds to yell the first two words that pop into his head.]
It's you!
[It couldn't be. And yet...that voice, that introduction, that face...
Larry was nice to most people. But this man had tried to throw one of his best friends in jail and led the other on a merry and difficult chase throughout the trial. And his rage and shock at seeing the prosecutor here was enough to trigger his impulse of yelling right into his NV, completely (almost completely?) giving himself away.
As if Larry would have the foresight to think of whether or not he should show himself or make himself heard.]

Though they themselves insisted they had nothing to do with while they were insistently attempting to bandage his weakened body and warn him against this supposed "Darkness"..Really, he had half an inclination to simply ignore them and find an establishment where he might actually find answers.]
Who is this? Am I speaking to the person who has brought me here? You will be punished.

No way! No flippin' way, I was dumped in here the same way you were!

Do you have proof?

...have the Greeters provided you with information about this place as of yet?

You mean the inexcusably lacking personnel that I hear are supposed to be at their posts? If anything, they're just as guilty. I'll see to it that they're all guilty.
Information would be most useful.

You are in the city of Siren's Port, and it was the Core that brought you here. Most people here have also been brought here against their wills. A starter apartment will have been assigned to you for one month free of rent to give you the chance to find a job and adjust to being here.
[She pauses and lets that information sink in before continuing.]
It is very important to stay inside after dark. There are dangerous creatures that come out and attack people. Sirens go off in the evening to warn people that they have come out, and the sirens go off again in the morning to let everyone know the creatures are gone for the night.

[He repeated, dully. He wasn't pleased. It was incredibly cold.]
What month and year is it?
[Frown.]
What sort of creatures?

[A governmental entity? How ridiculous.]
Hn. You seem to be well-informed. How have you come to obtain this knowledge?
[Was this person guilty as well?]

I've been here for a few months, with friends from home to help me get a running start, and the Core is ... an important topic of local politics. I admit to not having first-hand experience, but what I'm saying is fairly widely agreed to.

What else might you tell me of these..political matters?

Unless you've been here before that name's not gonna mean much, gramps.
[ Actually, he's heard the name "von Karma" floating around Port before, but baiting said crazy old man is too much to resist. ]

How dare you address me in such a manner. I am Prosecutor Manfred von Karma.
[He looks annoyed, nothing more, the corner of his mouth giving a distinct twitch.]

I dare because I'm Claire Stanfield. [ When it comes to the pompous name assertion shtick, if you can't beat them, join them! Right? Maybe it doesn't quite strike terror into the hearts of men here like it did back home, but the point stands. ]

[He huffs, looking unfazed. He dealt with all sorts of scum back home, why might this one be any different?]
