I wish to observe my Shadow. Call it foolhardiness or scientific curiosity, but I believe the experience would be enlightening.

However, it would be unwise for me to travel in the Darkness unaccompanied. While I am quite handy in a fight against humans, I regret to admit that a monster might be too much for me.

Who will come with me?

c: godot, c: caster, !: snake (999), c: emma frost, c: rainbow dash, c: the eleventh doctor

[The voice that replies is calm, a bit detached.]

Are you able to defend both me and yourself against the Darkness, should it come to that?

Ha! I'm not scared of a little dark!

Neither am I. In fact it does not matter to me at all.

I am a little more concerned about the monsters that lurk there.

I'll call it several types of foolishness, but if you'll have me as a companion I'll watch your back while you search.

Miss Frost, was it?

Actually, I wanted to know your opinion on these Shadow things.

I should start by saying that I don't have any information except that which is over the network.

That said, my current theory is some form of dark doppleganger, especially given the post immediately before yours.

Miss Frost, or Emma if you prefer to be less formal.

[dryly] Thank you, that was a summation I surely could not have to come to on my own.

I wanted to know if you thought any sort of telepathy came into play here. If the darkness monsters had perhaps gained enough sentience to entertain us in such a creative fashion, or if there was a person masterminding it.

But - dark dopplegangers - surely that must also be a possibility.

Don't be an idiot.

I am not, depending on what your definition of being an idiot is.

Risking your life for something stupid. That's being an idiot.

You do not have a monopoly on stubbornness or obtuseness.

Observe? Well I have my doubts about your shadow being willing to sit there and let you watch it, but I can help you out with the monsters and getting around after sirens part.

Apparently it can be reasoned with in the process of 'accepting' it. It is my hope if I do so that I will be able to gain a greater understanding of its sentience, and share this information with the city.

I was under the impression accepting them makes them go poof. But now you got me curious, so you can drop me a date and time whenever you want.

...And you think that it won't affect you as it might others?

[ Colour him a little bit interested. Okay. Maybe a little more than a little bit. ]

I am rather different than the others here in uncounted ways.

But I do not fear this thing, nor do I care if it is an unflattering little piece of me. I want to understand. If it has a human-like mind, and it is like me, I hope it may listen and reason.

Everyone's different in some way. There's plenty of us here that aren't even human.

[ He wonders if this man is one of them. ]

What would you do with it once you've reasoned with it?

Indeed so. But some are different cosmetically, others spiritually or physically. My difference is in how I observe the world, and to a far less important extent, how the world observes me. And my superior intelligence.

[He's not bragging, it is merely a fact.]

If the creature can be reasoned with, I must stop it before it harms anyone. In an ideal situation I could learn how these Shadows are connected, if they are individuals or all one being with a massive telepathic ability.
