[ the NV is propped up and turned on, revealing a certain ginger sitting at a table in her kitchen. there are bits of copper wire, parts of a what appears to be a mobile phone and some other miscellaneous wires and metal pieces laying about. nothing that couldn't be found in a hardware store, except for maybe the green glowy parts on the end of ( Read more... )

[Color Sherlock... well, intrigued, not impressed. Yet. Amy is not someone he expected to have any skills in engineering.]

Perhaps you could actually tell us what it is.

[ oho. it's not a text. that must mean something. ]

It's sonic! ... Except, well, not sure I want to call it a screwdriver. This is a bit different.

[ and Amy isn't too sure of the specifics of how the alien tech that the TARDIS provided works. ]

[It means he's actually having a proper conversation with you. HOW STRANGE]

I fail to see what that thing has to do with acoustics. Does it use waves from the island's power grid or an independent source?

You fail to see how a sonic doesn't use sound waves? Right. Aren't you supposed to already know these things?

[ also why is he getting all weird and technical on her? he should be asking what it can do not how she made it. even if she's impressed that she used very little material to make a small scale version of the real thing. ]

It's using an independent source. Though, I could get it to channel the power grid here, I think.

What is it?

[ science! her alternative to magic. ]

It's called a sonic screwdriver - at least as close as we could get it to that. Has a bit of alien technology to it.

Oh. Well, well done. What is it supposed to do, then?

Thanks. I just had some help with the alien part, 'course. [ she's proud of her engineering skills otherwise okay. ]

It does a few different things. Mostly I wanted it for scanning the area for lifeforms, which can be handy in the dark. But it also does a bit of lockpicking and hacking. Things like that.

[Oh. That's... a rather familiar noise. Not a familiar color, but that certainly must be what she thinks it is. And the bit of 'TARDIS help' might just cinch it.]

Is that-- Did you make that?

A sonic screwdriver? Yes! Mostly.

[ Amy is excite, especially since Rose should understand what it means. ]

I did. Wasn't sure if it would work, but... [ she presses a button, letting it sound again just to demonstrate. ]

You and the TARDIS? [Ohh, Rose is almost jealous!]

Well, seems t'be at least functioning. Don't you gotta add settings and such? Wonder if he'll be jealous.

Yeah, guess being human doesn't get rid of all her abilities. [ plus she has the convenience of living in the same flat as her. ]

Working on that -- got it wired into the keypad. But he better be, or at least impressed.

That's really impressive, Miss Amy. Is it a remote? [It looks like a NV remote :|a ]

[ grin! ] Thanks, Himawari. And sort of. It can be.

It is pretty cool looking, but what is it for? I mean, once you work out the kinks? [She hasn't really seen The Doctors sonic screwdriver yet, so she hasn't much to compare with yet]

[ once again, Amy gets all the cool points and the Doctor gets none. ]

It's for a few different things. Kind of like those swiss army knives, you know? I should be able to get it to rewire electronics, which is what I was trying to do. But it can also detect other signals and lifeforms. I thought it might be good to have with me out on the baseball field, yeah?

[Surely you haven't forgotten this cute little bow-tie wearing boy.] Wow, what's that? It looks really cool!

[ Never! Despite her feelings against that particular fashion statement, she can't forget it. ] I know! Except I'd like to find something for a better casing, so all these wirey bits aren't always poking out.

It's a sonic device. Remember my alien friend? He has one, too.

[Bow ties are cool totally time-period appropriate for him, k thanks.]

Right! His was a screwdriver, even though it didn't have a rotating tip or anything. [He pauses, thoughtfully.]

You could probably use the casing of a NetVice, but it'd be somewhat bigger then.

{ Okay, okay, he gets a pardon for that. ]

Yeah, it's more shaped like a giant pen. Or a wand. But it acts like a screwdriver most times.

[ Amy takes another look down at her device, tinkering with a bit of the wire at the back. ]

Suppose I could. I want to keep it small, you know, like a remote. Something to keep in my pocket.
