[It's getting a little darker earlier now, and Death turns on the NV a little after her talk with Aslan, before sending him on his way. She's sitting on the ground, head in her hands as she looks down at the camera.]

Some of you might already know this, but Aslan is dead. [Pauses.] The lion, for those of you who might not know his name, but know ( Read more... )

[No. No, that doesn't happen. That's not how the stories work.]

How.

[He simply can't. He was... He.]

Someone tried to leave. He saved him, but it cost him his own life.

He died for what he thought was right. Don't belittle his memory by calling the person he saved stupid.

[He's attaching this to the post, so everyone can see. Chuck is too tired, too hurting to make his own new post. Everyone will see Didi's announcement, and he just wants people to know. ]

He died saving someone. He died saving the city from the seeping Darkness you read about in the news feed.

We think the memorial will be on Wednesday at noon, in sector 7. [A few more detailed directions follow, that will lead to a nice place near Aslan's little haven, but far enough away to grant him privacy if he comes back. When.] Assuming he doesn't come back by then.

No disrespect was meant by having a funeral already. I was first on the scene, and the Darkness' effect on him made being quick absolutely crucial.

[Guilt. All of the guilt. Michael knows why Lucifer did it now.]

That's fine.

You'll keep him away from it. [It's not a question. Chuck doesn't know the exact details but he knows it's Lucifer's fault.]

[He thought the answer might be something like that. And still he's just doing what he's told in this situation.]

he won't leave my sight. [Time to keep a shorter leash on the devil.]

[That can't be right.

Griffin didn't know Aslan at all. He hadn't even known that was his name until seeing this. But he met the lion once and... there's something inherently wrong with the idea of him dying. Even for Griffin, who knows first hand that death comes for everything sooner or later, this is unexpected.

He's disappointed, but when he speaks it's respectful.]

How did it happen?

He died saving someone. It was how he would have wanted to go.

[Griffin's experienced plenty enough grief in his life to know when it happens. But right now, it's different. It's not that jagged, all-encompassing grief he's so familiar with. It's quiet, muted. It's not like Aslan was a being he was close to. Nothing had been taken from Griffin directly. Yet his loss makes Griffin feel strangely empty.]

Sounds about right. I mean, from what I knew about him.

[Which is nothing, but Griffin knows that much about him anyway.

It seems like he is just going to leave it there. But then he locks the feed.]

Is there, uh-- Would there be some kind of... dress code? For the memorial.

[He's seen a countless number of people die but not once has he ever been to a real memorial.]

No dress code. Anyone who wants to show up can, though I think wearing black would be appropriate.

[But who would know better than Didi? He can't even think of doubting her.]

How?

I'm sorry, Roxas. He died saving someone, though. It was very honorable of him.

[He can barely speak over the lump in his throat.]

Yeah. He'd do that. But I didn't think anything was strong enough to hurt him.

There's always something out there that's stronger then someone. Everything and everyone can die. One day I'll die. That's life.
