Tenth Flight - Action and Video

Nov 19, 2011 13:36

[ When the video flickers on, it shows Superman standing near the police headquarters in Sector 4. The street today is busy with people, but it's still early morning. Some give him a wide berth, and varying degrees of glances are shot his way. He has his arms folded, looking troubled, and his NV hovers a few feet in front of him. ]

Oh? And just how do you 'save people'?

It really depends on the situation. Sometimes it's actually stepping in and saving their lives--taking a bullet, catching them when they fall. Sometimes it's as simple as talking to people. Being there when they're most alone, or hurting.

I visit the children at the hospital sometimes just to give them hope--in a way I like to think I'm saving them, too.

So do you follow people about on the off-chance they may find themselves in a distressing situation, or are you simply a magnet for trouble yourself?

Neither. I have a variety of powers which make it impossible to ignore people in need of my help. Superhearing, telescopic vision, supersonic flight.

[She's dangling upside down if her gravity defying hair is anything to go on. Or, maybe, she just really got into the hair gel. With Jubilee? Either is a possibility.]

Ya know, we used to make ourselves targets, pretty big ones sometimes. However, I don't ever remember any of us actually wearing a sign that says "Please come try to kill us".

Kudos.

[ Clark just smiles, maybe a little apologetically. ]

I'm hardly unaware of my painting a target on my chest.

[ He unfolds his arms. The S shield really does look like a target, if you think about it. ]

But better mine, here, than someone else's. I have never been, and never will be, afraid to stand up for what I believe in.

[She just grins at him.]

Hey, we defended a world that hated and feared us. Because it was the right thing to do. So, I totally understand.

I knew you would. Hey, if you don't mind a little super-solidarity, I wouldn't say no to seeing a friendly face. If you're not busy?

"I've always believed that if you have the power to do so, it is your responsibility to use it to make a difference, not to sit by and watch as injustice is done, as people suffer around you..." you say.

A man older and much wiser than either of us once told me "Sometimes you get a moment, were everything lines up, and suddenly, you can make things happen. God help help you if you take it, God forgive you if you don't."

I've found this to be far more true than the idea that power brings responsibility.

When I speak of power, I don't mean it in the same way you do. Yes, I have powers, but even without them I would fight for what I believe in. As Kennedy said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

My father was a simple civil servant, who served his draft time. That was what he was referring. Not literal power, in terms of superpowers, which were unheard of.

I think we agree, essentially. I think...

[ Clark sighs, pauses. ]

I think that you talk of duty, but I may be misunderstanding. The message is slightly different.
