Aside from that, life has been good. The nightmares weren't much fun, but the masquerade party afterwards was.

After an expedition to the lighthouse, some telepath - who was probably the medium on the expedition, but I don't think that was ever established - started reading people's nightmares and projecting them. The source telepath just projected on a sleeping frequency, so while you didn't have to be dreaming you did have to be asleep to hear, unless you were especially listening for telepathy or some such. Other people with other powers got caught up so that even if you didn't sleep, there was a chance that a different telepath would project nightmares into your waking brain, or someone would magically put you to sleep. A week later it all stopped - I think the primary telepath died.

It was rough on a lot of people - I didn't care for the experience, and I had it comparitively easy.

Elaine and Morpheus gave a masquerade party at the Lux afterwards which was ... both pleasant and spectacular. It was a nice respite.

I've loved parties ever since my shields got good enough that I trusted them to hold under all the people around even when they started loudly thinking about the same things. There it helps to be an extrovert.

There are different forms of telepathic power; most, at least where I'm from, are on by default, like hearing. One has to learn to build mental walls which separate your mind from everyone else's -- something that having telepathy makes both vitally necessary and easier to learn, but it's not actually telepathy, it's ... more akin to focused meditation.

And yes, telepaths can go insane if they fail to learn this quickly enough. Even back home -- here must be worse, especially if you start with a reasonable range instead of only 'hearing' thoughts in the same room at first.

Yes, that sounds like the same problem, if difference senses.
