[ Chane is nearly panicked. It's not altogether obvious in her less-than-shaky hold of the NV, nor her complexion which, although her skin tone is already rather pale, seems whiter than before. There is a vaguely pained expression being worn, tinted with some kind of annoyance. Some might recognise this as her bothered, worried look, a giveaway ( Read more... )

[He was already thrown by how clearly on-edge Chane seemed to be at the start of the broadcast, but this...

Tonegawa stares, momentarily dumbfounded- and then he tries to formulate a sentence.]

Tell me that was a trick of the light, Laforet-kun.

[ She touches her hand to the glass, although all that can be seen of this is the turned-around notebook seemingly floating in mid-air in its reflection. When she turns it back around to herself her look holds much less of the tension from before. Even with her boss's confusion, yes. ]

No. Completely natural.

That can't be possible. [He says, watching her notebook hover unaided before she turns it away from the mirror. Stupid thing to say.

He's pinching the bridge of his nose by the time she's written her message, sighing.] ... no reflection. That's fine. That shouldn't pose too much of a problem for you for now. [assuming that's all there is to it, of course]

[ Sorry, Tonegawa, she's looking in completely the opposite direction, eyes following the silhouette of a bare-shouldered young lady passing by her in the hallway. It's difficult to pay attention when this feeling of hunger has struck her to the very core. A moment more of silence, then she gives a quick notification before simply turning and briefly shutting off the video. ]

I can't work for long tonight.

[ Even turning away the most inappropriately dressed patrons, Lion’s Gate was having its fair share of strange goings-on. Someone had found a particularly disastrous loophole in the dress code and come in a tuxedo, but with an orange beak accessory. They spent the rest of the night being chaperoned by various staff members in one of the large sinks in the kitchen, and occasionally fed sardines. That hadn’t been in the job description.

A few similar mishaps had kept Claire mostly diverted from the network for the night, but by now he was up to grips enough with the technology to have an NV alert for posts from particular sources. Luckily the penguin incident meant that a couple of extra millimeters of teeth and a lack of a reflection weren't completely shocking to him. ]

Uh. I still love you even if you're a vampire.

[ Her eyes are staring straight at the feed at that first syllable, surveilling the background behind Claire, the sounds and the movement within the video. She can locate him. The natural want to see him in-person has morphed into something of a compulsion now, but not necessarily for him- for what he can provide, perhaps. Or both.

When she does register his words, she lifts her eyebrows- strangely expressive for her, yet the motion does not feel unusual- and tilts her head back in something akin to mocking disbelief, mouth quirked to bare that fang again.

Really.

The thought ends as abruptly as the video feed; shortly after she'll be winding her way noiselessly through the busy crowds of Lion's Gate, slipping through almost unnoticeably even with the trailing sleeves of the gown and the wide collar. She does not stop until her heels clack to a halt directly by Claire, by the exact shadow of the wallpaper and furnishing she had noticed earlier. No need for a greeting. ]

[ The suddenly cut-off video feed leaves him staring. That was new; he didn't even get the chance to reassure her that really. Eventually he slips the NV back into his pocket and returns to his post, mentally replaying that contemptuous look and hiding his restlessness in the fidgeting of his hands clasped behind his back.

The sound of heels, surprises him: it's rather difficult to get that close to him without him noticing, but seeing it's her he grins in welcome. There's a note of - not wariness, but definitely assessment in it, and (remembering the disdain that met his last comment) he takes a moment to look her over before speaking, finding no sign of that trepidation left - in fact, not even any trace of the dress dress dress look up usual caution that she carries with her in unfamiliar situations. He grins a little wider, and though he looks pointedly to where the fangs lie beneath her lips it's not clear if he means the outfit or the vampirism. ] I gotta say, it's a good look on you.

[ Similarly, her gaze, when she eventually decides to meet his, holds a slight edge of analysis to it amongst the seemingly distracted lingering over staring at his mouth, jaw, throat. Perhaps too strongly-built for her to access, she thinks, despite the slight height gap between them, the extra force she feels coursing through her as blood and vitality does.

It's a tentative consideration, at the very least, up until he looks at her like that. The intrigue beneath his care in approaching her. That stands as a sliver of proof, nothing so vivid as hope but the knowledge that he can be swayed somehow-- it's just about enough to cancel out the all-too-obvious acknowledgement of her appearance. Where at that compliment she might blush and turn away as herself, now, she untucks her hair from behind the collar, sliding her tongue over her lip in a way that drags attention to where it stops at her teeth. The movements just barely contain a question: which? ]

Is that some kind of trick? [An illusion made by mirrors, maybe?]

Nothing of the sort. Unless the mirrors here as well as in the house are enchanted. Even so.

But it's not normal, is it? For you to be invisible in mirrors.

[ A pause. It's normal, for what she is now. Somehow it is taking some time to become accustomed to that idea and discard her surprise. ]

I did not think it applied to me as well.
