13th Letter; video (before sirens)

[Franz is standing in front of mirror in a rather stylish bathroom, the mirror a little bit steamy. He's dressed in a button-down shirt and pinstripe pants, the type that are probably part of a three piece suit. His NV is propped up recording - a green leather book with gold filigree-like stamping, the camera itself like some old-fashioned concept ( Read more... )

Movies are mostly rubbish. You're not really missing out.

You can rent all the good ones. A lot of people do that for dates - get a hotel room and just watched the movie there. It's a lot more fun for snuggling, too!

[She's struck by how much this hits home, how much it resonates with her. She doesn't know what to say. She's too melancholic to be fair tonight but she's going to try anyway.]

You understand it better than most people do.

[All of us from Romdeau do.]

That dual, stifling nature.

Tch. And clogged pores.

[Gently, almost amused:]

There are solutions to those, of course. ...The clogged pores, I mean. I haven't found any solution to the other problem.

I don't really have that much of a problem with them unless I fall asleep in my make up. In that case it's really my fault. [pause, and even though he's obviously got his regime down and quite a few products here--]

I'd appreciate any tips you have, though.

[The video adjusts- Daedalus is in the train terminal stairwell at Henderson Stop, on the last leg of evening commute and walking briskly to give him plenty of time before first siren's blast.

No carpool to catch today, he's made a detour, so he's going the last few blocks on foot, and ducking into the corner deli that's popular with SPU campus kids. A pair of hot sandwiches later, and he'll be nearing home.]

You accuse me of navel-gazing, and yet I find you here, waxing poetic about your cover-up to the network at large!

[Daedalus is laughing, bright-eyed in his fall coat, and it's not really a mean-spirited teasing in his tone at all. In fact, there's something quite keenly charmed in his expression. Which can be difficult, after ten months of getting used to the daily habits of someone close in your life.]

I'm kidding, naturally. But you should speak up about things like this more often.

[He sees Franz smartening at the mirror every morning, but he rarely has the slightest clue what's running through his mind, while he's ( ... )

[Oh look, you've made him glow all pink now, grinning. He laughs behind his hand.] You--

[And there's so many ways he almost ends that sentence, like --are embarrassing me! or --charmer! Are you just trying to score some after-church playtime?. But in the end he cuts himself off, too shyly pleased to really engage that happiness.]

Are you picking up some supper? That's splendid.

Just sandwiches tonight. [A shrug- he still hasn't decided on what, but maybe there's something that's remotely healthy, and not too long a line.] Since, ah- tomorrow will be plenty of food?

It's so strange, to be off on a Sunday! [He laughs breezily to the crisp air, feeling a bit free despite all the other terrible ordeals of the weekend. It's refreshing to be able to go home. Usually on these night's he's in for a long haul shift.] But I've swapped with Dr. Chervez, who has some big family affair to stay home and clean up after tomorrow.

If it means I don't have to cook, then I'm all for it? [They never cook. Pretty much ever. Which is a big no-no, as French people and doctors, but, well. Who has the time?]

I'm looking forward to seeing you. Got a movie picked out and everything~.

[She laughs.] Okay, Nick.

And I don't blame you for not wanting to cover up anymore. I thought REGULAR make-up was a pain in the ass.
