EMP Shocks City
By Lois Lane

Siren’s Port was caught by surprise by a sudden EMP just before evening sirens last night. All over the city, electronic devices, including NVs, stopped functioning without warning. Panic was pushed along still further by the cacophony of car and personal security alarms set off simultaneously. The only injuries caused directly by the universal power-out were to those with biotechnological implants of any kind.

Precisely what caused the burst remains unclear. Nor does it appear to be the text-book case: all electronics were functional again after ten minutes, and reports indicate that many independent generators and power sources revived even more quickly.

The most serious side-effects of the EMP, however, were two-fold: the wide-spread public panic leading to injuries in the ensuing chaos and the effect on the sirens. Though other safety alarms were triggered, the sirens themselves did not sound, and coupled with the panic many people were unprepared for the onset of Darkness. Today the number of ER patients injured by the Darkness has at least doubled.

Even as the city stumbled through a terrifying night, however, the character of her residents rose to the occasion. All over the city, faces both familiar and unknown stayed out in the Darkness to help the victims of the EMP. Some of those familiar faces have always lent a hand when needed; some were the professionals who devote their lives to protecting and serving the Port. Many, though, were simply friends or even strangers refusing to let others stand alone. Families were escorted to safety, the injured taken to clinics, and monsters in the Darkness held off from those unable to protect themselves.

There will never be a way to name them all, much less to thank them, but last night proved that whatever corporate warring tears at their lives, or how tightly besieged they are by the ghosts of the dead, the citizens of Siren’s Port will take care of their own.

- Major Xaylein Producer Apprehended
After receiving an anonymous tip on Thursday night, the SPPD raided a sector eight pharmaceutical warehouse with a stock of the newest street drug Xaylein, known for causing psychotic reactions. The drug has been indirectly responsible for several murders in the past month. The police ran into little resistance, finding that the drug runners there were already subdued, along with suspected drug lord Daniel Mancini. When questioned, the men in custody described two civilian clothed English gentlemen as their assailants. Considering that some of the men were high on their own product, it has yet to be determined whether these mysterious figures exist at all.

- Mysterious predictive art triggers conspiracy theories
Too late, a second piece of art predicting yesterday's massive electrical blackout and failure of the city's sirens, was discovered today. In the same art style as the first, it depicts an open window, with a monster and creeping Darkness slipping inside. While many believe that this art merely predicts the incidents, others accuse the artist of having some hand in enacting them for his own fame, an accusation that has been ridiculed by those that point out that the artist is anonymous.

- Joker’s Swan Song?

Security cameras reveal that the individual was the Joker, a Newcomer and wanted serial killer. No body has been found but the murderous clown is presumed dead. The exact reasons for his sudden suicide are unknown.
