The man who welcomed me here was very nice. Even if he could not answer everything I asked of him, I think that he is a good person. It's a pity that he had to leave so soon to greet the next arrival. He did, however, leave me with a basic understanding of this place - I'd always suspected that something like this might have existed, but I did find that his explanation was very unimaginative. If I had been here for as long as he, I would find my curiosity growing by the day, instead of dwindling away into nothing.
A few possibilities:
1. everything about this place was an accident - something that wasn't supposed to happen and has anyway; reluctant to admit to mistakes, those in the know keep us here out of embarrassment.
2. we have unwittingly come into knowledge of something we ought know nothing about, and are being kept here until our memories can be properly fine-tuned, and only once this method is successful do people return to where they originally came from. sophisticated magic, most likely a plan to have concocted by the government.
3.we are all test subjects for some sort of experiment - something to do with food, maybe? It's only been a day but all the food I've had here has been very bland.
In any case, there's certainly something here that's more than meets the eye. There always is. When I see Dad again, when he's allowed to write again, I'll tell him everything about my experiences here. I know it's a story that he'd love to write. Or I could even write it myself.
Anyway, I should learn how the magic of this diary works - the Greeter told me that I should be able to use it to contact others who also live in this city, but didn't give clear instructions on how exactly it should be used. He seemed rather flustered, actually, even when I assured him that I would be able to figure it out.
[The sound seems to come on now, along with a quiet tapping noise.
Then, the video turns on as well, showing the upside-down face of a blonde girl as she hastily sticks her wand behind her ear. Despite her matted hair and dirt-streaked face, her smile is wide.]
