[Even the glasses can't hide the sadness behind them. Clark is quiet when the video feed comes on, and his eyes only briefly flicker toward the video. He twists his hands together in front of him, anxiously.]

[ This really hits home, in a way that makes him pause to think about his words before he says them, so he won't make it too painful for himself either. He's not wearing his mask when the video feed clicks on-- he could probably take a leaf out of Clark's book on superhero disguises. ]

I... think you gotta just keep trusting them. Whatever you did, you still have to believe in them, believe that they're still able to trust you again.

Yeah, I... [ Quirks his mouth some, rolls a shoulder with a slight grumble. It's not a pleasant topic for anybody. ]

Some things're hard to trust people on. Like if there's a part of their lives they don't want others to see, or it's a stretch to believe that they'll handle a situation alone... [ Then he seems to become aware of some imaginary line he's toeing, and sits up a little more, waving a hand apologetically ] Er, I don't know how bad things got between you and this other person so you don't have to answer, but...! If you trusted them in the first place, that's gotta count for somethin', right?

Do you think it's possible to trust too much? To somehow cheapen it? I'm a very trusting person--it's in my nature. Not while I'm on the job, obviously. Trusting plus reporter would get me fired in no time. But I mean...I think you're meant to trust your friends. And everyone deserves a second chance.

[She sees that sadness, the way he's sitting. Unlike Bruce, Clark is more open. So she listens to the other conversations before she responds.]

I'm not the kind of person to give up, that's for sure.

Does it usually get worse before it gets better? I thought that was just something they said about High School.

[She doesn't know. She wishes she did. But it'll only be so long before she does find out. For now...she has a feeling it involves her family, and that means she needs to keep an eye on it.

Trust is one of the hardest things to fix in any relationship. I think sticking around, even at a mild distance, can sometimes help things heal, slowly.

That's right. I'm sorry--I want to say that it's good to see that you're alive and well, but I'm not sure that's... Appropriate.

[He's died before. More than once. It's not something you just get over, and when you do miraculously come back to life, having died at all is troubling enough.]

You have to give them time. Forcing the issue won't do anything to help them, it's something only they can come back from.

Pretty much. Or at least gives them time to really get through everything. People need the time to understand what it is that's going on inside them. Not everyone is so in-tuned to their own feelings.

Maybe. But musing on it for too long can have ill effects too. You can get so caught up that you become bitter and twisted. Maybe you focus on revenge? Maybe you just give up on people? It happens.
