There anything you 'specially want to know about, bambina? Can't say I can explain the whole damn lawbook, but I can try to give you answers about the specifics.

But I ain't gotta kill nobody to keep myself alive. And nobody I've known ever killed a man and then kept himself sane. Usually it just complicated things. [He doesn't know of Amy's and Raphael's, erm, "condition". He's assuming they are ordinary humans otherwise.]

It is difficult when you come from a time where death is commonplace.

And death ain't so commonplace here neither, long as people don't get no stupid ideas and run out in the Darkness when they shouldn't. Past that, most folks get along just fine, I'd like to think. [Of course, there are still murders and the like. But the SPPD works really hard to prevent that sort of thing, and Jake works really hard to get the people who do that sort of thing behind bars.]

Granted, this place does prove to be relatively less brutal than in the days of past.

Less brutal during the daylight, sure.

At least this world does not have so-called "law enforcers" who harass the poor and even commit murder in broad daylight for fun and profit.
