Nearly a month after the whole trouble started, a very expensive veterinary drug finally appears on the market to treat those cats plagued by that strange, pained behavior after siren. From what I hear behind closed doors (the latest intern gossip), the cure's been ready for weeks now, linked to a project in development prior to the disease even ( Read more... )

Surgical masks, huh?

I'm going to look like something else.

Please, save some protesting for Franz and Mr. Hummel! I expect to hear the fashion police any moment now!

Ha...! I wouldn't mind it normally, but there's not going to be a half of my face left.

Until we are given further information about the spores and their toxin, I really think you'd be better off indoors as much as possible, then.

...Surgical masks.

Yes. They're not completely effective, but should protect the air passageways from direct inhalation, at least.

You're sure this is necessary?

My concern is more that it's not enough.

[Ah, what a refreshing change of pace! Miranda was very thorough in combing over the network for points of interest, but it was a rare thing to find anything that had even the slightest bit of intrigue to her. This was at least somewhat relevant to her interests.

With the slightest hint of a smile upon her lips, she arched her head to the side as she replied.]

Perhaps you're working for the wrong company entirely.

My work at Skye has allowed for us to make significant inroads, establishing some important precedents for health care on behalf of the newcomer community.

...but what I've said in regards to SERO- these are the common gripings of everyone at the hospital, and that includes SPGH as well.

I suppose it comes down to what you want to accomplish more.

[She gave a slight, dismissive shrug before glancing to the side.]

Regardless of how you look at it, I know that I wouldn't stand to work for a company that couldn't afford to spare the resources that were needed in order to evolve on a scientific level.

I come from a background in research bio-engineering, and- believe me, I am well aware of the cost, when medical advancment runs stagnant.

SERO and their affiliated subsidiaries are more advanced by far in cutting-edge treatments than any smaller, privately run hospitals. Their higher evolution, with time, will trickle down to us. That's...unfortunately how their monopoly on the industry works here.

But Skye has made the immediate needs of patient care a higher priority than research development. Being located in the fourth sector, their free clinic is where the vast majority of injured or sick newcomers end up. And until I'm satisfied that the newcomer community is receiving equal and indiscriminate medical attention as any citizen, this is where I have a calling to stay.

I am. It's a bit difficult, being a newcomer- no one wants to put you up for a long term mortgage, but Tonegawa's been walking us through it. I'd...just appreciate the second opinion or do, to be sure we're handling things wisely.

But my pretty face won't be seen anymore. [ Sarcastic mourning tone.

But more importantly! ]

You were asking about real estate?

Ah, we'll have to muddle through the aesthetic dearth somehow, Mr. Wayne.

Yes. Do you think it's out of the question for a newcomer to get pre-approval on condominium property?

But how will the island survived, really.

[ Pause. He's... actually considering this seriously. ]

It wouldn't be if there is some sort of security with regards to who the Core pulls out. Like, if there is a guarantee that they won't be Pulled after staying here for a year, or something of that sort.

But there isn't such a thing, so... it's kind of a difficult question to consider, hey.

It thrived long before your arrival, though AGI's had rather a bad quarter since, from what I hear. A real shame. Though it must be all the new liability claims, and not your pretty face.

I have over a year of good leasing history, credit and payroll. My partner, nearly so. My concern does lie in the fact that we are newcomers, however, and there's nothing to say they can't discriminate on that uncertainty.
