[The NV crackles slightly before the sound clears, to a...sigh. And a voice that not many who don't frequent the Lux have heard in the last month.]

Claude Faustus.

[There's very little inflection to how Naoya says it--mostly because he doesn't actually remember the last time he slept.]I have finished your computer. Please pick it up at your ( Read more... )

[...Is this guy just asleep on his desk--Wait no he's moving.]

Fair enough. But does that make betrayal impossible when no secrets are involved?

How individuals each define what counts as that betrayal of trust is, however, anything but self-explanatory.

Unclear intentions from the very beginning. That would be betrayal.

[ It is a frightening enough topic to think about, and yet she doesn't even think to apply it to the ones close to her. ]

And if someone's unsure of their own intentions?

Those affilated with them should be aware of that. Otherwise, it is witholding information.

Mm, that is a clear delineation. But rather unforgiving...does context not matter at all? The reasons a person may hide information?

When someone does something you know you wouldn't like, I think! Especially if they don't tell you about it.

[Man, Naoya looks tired. Or maybe he's just always that pale?]

...How broad a definition.

You think so? I thought it was good!

Well, naturally it is your own. But things happen all the time that other people don't like. Betrayal's a heavy word.

When you're lied to. When you're not lied to for your own good- and they're not sorry for it.

[Claude has been expecting Naoya to deliver on his promises, eventually, but it's still a relief to know what was asked for (and paid for) is now complete. So, while Naoya sounds outright exhausted, Claude is audibly pleased about this news.]

When is the last time you went to bed, Mr. Naoya?

[Though he remains wary, he isn't so intimidated of a sleepy reincarnation. Demons consider sleep to be a luxury; many of them don't bother at all.]

It doesn't particularly matter. [He could find the date, if he bothered, but what's the point. Naoya forces himself more awake by sheer strength of will, and his smirk is almost audible.

He has his doubts if Claude will recognize the beast Naoya's built for him for what it is, but Naoya's job is also to teach him, is it not? He'll appreciate it, one way or another.]

My apologies for the delay. I may have gotten...slightly carried away in solving a few problems of efficiency.

Oh, but it does matter. With your neglecting sleep, it's only reasonable to assume that you have also neglected eating and so on. [... that could include Naoya's personal hygiene. That could include brushing his teeth. Nothing is worse than unbrushed teeth. Thanks to the Internet, Claude knows all about these hikikomori types. Should he make ready the buckets, sponges, and dental picks?

Checking his watch, he decides there's plenty of time. The Sirens haven't gone off yet, and his master, capricious as ever, doesn't seem to want dinner.]

Permit me to celebrate your work by bringing over something nutritious and revitalizing. [And he'll throw in one of those bottles of gummy vitamins, too. The lemon-flavored ones are the best.] I'll be there to retrieve the computer, regardless.
