[The video flickers on to reveal Fai leaning against the open back door of the Bistro's kitchen. There's a white apron dusted with flour hanging loosely around his waist and a cigarette dangling from the fingertips of his other hand.
He casts the door a glance, as if to ensure there are no little ears within hearing, and then he smiles.

Enough, Pommie.

...Pommie?

Do you mean kids owning things, or...? I... don't think people are allowed to own kids.

[A beat, and a startled laugh.]
And I meant kids owning things. Even if it were allowed, I don't approve of slavery.

Just feeling a touch under the weather. Low blood-sugar or something, I'm sure.

As soon as the cafe closes, I promise to get lots of rest, okay?

Your powers of observation astound.
[Then a dismissive shrug.]
Just having a bit of an insomnia issue. It'll pass soon enough.

Insomnia? Are you worried about those laws?

More like... after getting unexpectedly beheaded once, I'd like to be sure Sakura-chan is well covered in case of some other, more permanent, unexpected something that might come along.

Once she set them down, she looked over at Fai noticing the look of sickness behind blue eyes. It was a look she was familiar with having witnessed the slow death of many of Mayuri's experiments.]
Miles Edgeworth is the person to contact for any legal matters in this world.
[She answered his question, as she lifted her sleeves, and turned on the hot water.]
You look ill.
[An observation as she picked up a soapy plate and mechanically cleaned it, and washed it off in the next sink before placing it on the rack to dry. She then picked up another plate, and repeated the process which took no more than a three seconds per plate.]

[With a shrug, Fai crushed the cigarette into the ashtray set by the door, then pulled the door shut behind him. He stepped up beside her just long enough to flash her a smile as he washed his hands.]
...Would you believe me if I said it was merely a sleep disorder?
[He didn't really think that'd work, not with how very observant Nemu seemed to be, but figured it was worth a shot.]

When did you start smoking?
[A reasonable question considering he was living with a young girl who would inhale the smoke.
Again her gaze shifted to him, but this time it lifted to his face, and remained there.]
No. [A blunt, but honest answer. The signs of sickness where different from simple sleep deprivation, a subtle difference, but one Nemu had observed time and time again in her father's torture victims. He could not fool her so easily.]

[He paused to lean back hipshot against the counter and crossed his arms as he settled into a lazy slouch. His gaze was thoughtful as he watched her for a moment, because he had no doubt - this place, for all that it could somehow circumvent his teleportation magic, was nothing like the valley.
His magic wasn't enough to sustain him without access to Kurogane's blood.
Which meant, he needed to leave Sakura in the hands of someone that would actually take care of her...
He cast a glance out the service window to make sure Sakura wasn't near, though he needn't worry - she was happily chatting with a customer.]
In truth, I have a rare blood disorder. There's only one person who is a compatible match for transfusions so... without him here, I'm afraid... dying.
