[The voice from the NV is level. The face is altogether expressionless. Yet for all of that, there's a certain amount of energy and focus to this new arrival: his words are quick and precise, his manner intent, with hardly a wasted motion.]It's sad in a way, observing how things are here. There are so many opportunities in this place. There's so ( Read more... )

It seems you have a rather rose-tinted view of those wretched companies. They have no choice but to take us in and they do it in ways that benefit themselves and harm others.

I am suggesting that the companies went beyond what is acceptable in their retaliation. Simply because of the power they wield, they have the right to do things which are considered illegal to anyone else. They are nothing more than dictators.

What do you think the fundamental nature of a man is?

Chaotic. Destructive. At heart, mortal men are little more than wild beasts with a few things added in. They are no more tame than snakes in the grass and will bite back just as hard if threatened. That doesn't make it something I can forgive them for, for you see, I'm selfish enough to be protective of the things that are mine.

Sweet indeed. But hypocritical.

...I am not sweet. And I never claimed to not be a hypocrite. I disapprove of what they do, but that would have meant nothing if they had not laid their hands on what is mine.

To be "good"? There's no such thing. All humans are flawed at the basic level. People do things because they get something in return.

You contradict yourself very often.

So I've been told. But I'm really not contradicting anything at all.

SERO could make you strong - stronger than you can even imagine. They could give you immortality. But you cling to the meaning assigned to you by other people.

[Something flickers in his eyes at those words. To get stronger...]

And what, I wonder, would they ask in return for that strength?

That strength to use. It's the way it always goes. But I think it's fair...Don't you?

[That's really not fair. They killed Shinji... killed Kazuhiko. And this man is saying that they could do that.]

Then why not give themselves the strength they wish to use?
