[The voice from the NV is level. The face is altogether expressionless. Yet for all of that, there's a certain amount of energy and focus to this new arrival: his words are quick and precise, his manner intent, with hardly a wasted motion.]It's sad in a way, observing how things are here. There are so many opportunities in this place. There's so ( Read more... )

They aren't as bad as everyone says. SERO saved my life.

[Being a polite enough sort, Dolph switches over to text as well.]

Did they, now? How did that happen?

[Tom has a history here in town and is laying low. You know, as gentlemanly murderers and psychotics do.]

I was in a jam and they were the only ones who could help.

["In a jam" is new slang, so Tom will have to wait a moment while Dolph looks it up. He nods approvingly once he understands.]

How good of them. Do you work for them now?

But they hurt people more than they help them!

Is that so? Have you seen that, then, with your own eyes?

I know they've done bad stuff to people I really like!

What have they done, Miss?

[ While she finds herself agreeing with the first part, the second gives her pause. ]

Everyone's reaction to being placed into a new environment is different.

I guess this means you're planning on joining one or the other?

It would be hypocritical if I didn't, wouldn't it? I took up so much of your time going on and on.

[There's almost a bit of good humor in his voice, but none at all on his face.]

[ Streange, the way he says that. ]

You don't have to apologize, you know. [ And she's watching his reaction, carefully. ] If I didn't want to take the time listen, I could have always moved on to the next post.

How true.

[There's absolutely no change in his expression, but his voice is almost friendly.]

Yes. They've been kind enough to me, so I should be kind back.

The freedoms of this place continually surprise me, as well.

I assume you're referring to the generous corporate sponsorship of the Tower Apartments, then?

What sort of gratitude would you find appropriate?

Loyalty. Of course.

Loyalty. That's exceedingly difficult, and risky, with so much tension between the two in competitive opposition.

So which one has helped you?

One can be grateful to the city for assistance and still find the acts perpetrated by a company shameful. There is nothing honorable about slavery, nor is there anything to be lauded about human experimentation.

Many of us do work to make the lives of the citizens of the city better-- after all, until we find a way to our own worlds, this is our home too.

[There's the distinct sound of something mechanical being worked on in the background, the clang of metal on metal- though it's never so loud as to drown out his voice.]

Of course. Hasn't everyone?
