[It's been about a week since he's been working at the Central Branch of the Siren's Port Library. As far as jobs go, it is a simple one and one he can find some appreciation in. Mostly because it one that leaves him in silence at least most of the time. Ulquiorra likes books as much as he quiet ( Read more... )

[ Yako has, by this point, mostly given up using the network-- it doesn't seem like she's going to get any meaningful conversation, as long as things stay the way they are. She's been pretty busy of late, so it seems a good time to catch up on some of her reading. The noisiness of that young man in particular makes her half inclined to walk over and tell him to be quiet herself, but before she can--

That. Was actually kind of freaky. She's so startled by the display that she forgets where she's going and bumps into a bookshelf, sending a handful of books wobbling off the edge and towards the floor.

Yako has a brief, fleeting mental image of the same beam being pointed right at her head for the transgression. Before her mind can paint a picture of the inevitable conclusion, her body's self-preservation instincts kick in and she dives to catch them, arms outstretched. The books don't hit the ground, but they do hit her, and there's a rather pained-sounding thump as she belly-flops onto the floor. ]

[It does not help that he is the most imtimdating librarian ever. Who wears a bone helmet and a sword at their hip anyway? The young man was certainly besides himself as Ulquiorra lowered his hand and begun sobbing over the small pile of smoking ash - all that was left of his precious device.]

I trust I won't have to ask you again to be quiet.

[The man choked out a reply as he backed away from Ulquiorra and quickly gathered his things. He watches the rule breaker leave from the corner of his and turns just in time to catch Yako as begins to recover from her sudden stumble. Of course, she ends up on the ground and he says nothing as each book takes it turn in crashing atop her. It isn't until the last has fallen that he moves and begins to lift them off her one by one.

This would be a good time to sigh, but he does not, he does however wonder, why humans had to be so troublesome?]

[ Like a deer caught in the headlights (or well, like a girl who's just had a few books hit her in the head), Yako stays where she is, trying not to look like she's breathing. If she plays dead, maybe he won't hurt her. Except that only works for bears, doesn't it? Crap. She's dead.

As Ulquiorra pulls the books off her and she's allowed to continues breathing, she finally lets herself look up warily.

(Is he Grimmjow's friend, or are bone accessories just the in thing these days? Oh god he has a sword.) ]

... Thank you. Sorry about the books.

[It seems to be working. Ulquiorra does not speak or even look at Yako as he removes more books from atop her. One by one he makes a small pile of them in his hand and once Yako stands he lets his eyes shift down at the small female. Sadly, he couldn't kill civilians... as much as he might like to from time to time.]

You should be more careful. You will damage the books if you do not watch where you are going.

[Scolding her? Yup.]

[Clearly, the "Quiet in the Library" sign needs to be replaced with "Quiet in the Library or you will be Cero'd". Out of all of them, Ulquiorra was certainly the most level headed, so seeing him do such a thing in a public place while working was far too amusing for Szayel not to comment. At least he has the decency (and sense of self preservation) to wait until after Ulquiorra's work shift.]

My, my... bad day at work?

[Even Ulquiorra knows that firing a cero indoors is dangerous. Especially, at such close quarters. That is why a carefully and precisely fired bala works so much more efficiently.]

Hardly. The human learned his lesson. He was quite apologetic when I was done speaking with him.

[Cero. Bala. Either one leads to a rather toasty human in the end.]

Speaking, hm? You mean glaring while the idiot groveled at your feet?

His life was never in danger.

[Of course, Ulquiorra never told him that. It would not do well to kill Library patrons, but there was no rules against scaring the life out of them.]

[Keigo takes this as proof why you should never ever go to the library.

And proof that never leaving the house is a good idea if Arrancar have jobs now.

And proof that his stupid power really is a lot like theirs. He'd better not turn into a Hollow. That would be just the kind of thing this horrible city would do to him.]

[They all do in fact. Be afraid Keigo. Be very afraid. Especially, of Uqluiorra. He'll tell you all about the dewey decimal system if you aren't careful!]

There are other ways to get a man's attention besides going straight for the Cero.

I can not be bothered to repeat myself. The rules of this building are clearly posted in several places.

Of course. You wouldn't want anyone to accidentally have any fun there.

Fun has nothing to do with it. This is a place of learning.

[Granted that is fun for some stuffy types, himself included, but fun wasn't the point in this situation.]

Perhaps it will teach others to follow the rules more carefully in the future.

[As a former friend of Aizen, he would receive a proper greeting.]

Orochimaru. Allow me to welcome you back to the city.

[So well trained. Orochimaru appreciates that.]

Thank you, Ulquiorra. [He forgoes the appellation he would usually apply for much the same reason.] How have things been?

Quiet, now that Aizen-sama has gone we have no standing orders. However, nothing has changed since you have left the city.

Do you have a place to stay?

[He only mentions this because of his previous standing with Aizen. Nueva Las Noches had plenty of space available if he needed a place to stay temporarily.]
