Well now. This thing is turning me into a regular "Chatty Cathy". [there's a background static of familiar, distant traffic through a window, the squeak of a chair and someone smoking ( Read more... )

If it wasn't for my citizen identification on me, as well as the files that came along with me, on my holobook, I don't think I would have gotten immediate placement at the medical center.

That's quite high up in your Investigation Bureau, I'm assuming? The title sounds very impressive, at least.

I don't know if the SPPD will higher straight into their police detective units. But you may as well try- speak with Officer Mayer, that's what I'd recommend.

Damn fortunate for you. Which medical center is that? I've heard they have a few big ones here.

[he smiles genially] There's all the difference in the world between 'sounds' and 'is'.

That's the second time now I've been told that. Officer Mayer's made quite the name for herself here.

Skye. In the 4th Sector.

Well- that is to say it isn't, then?

Oh? Someone's beaten me to it? Who passed you along to her the first time?

Neutral, huh? I've heard there's some pharmacy fiasco that has them worried.

An Officer Fratley. Real friendly guy.

It's a nickname. My first name is William. Went by Billy until I joined the force, and when I worked narcotics the officers in my division called me "Bigby". It caught on, and I've liked it enough to keep it.

Are you interested in joining the police? As a detective, perhaps?

I'd like to join, but my interest is in a position that reflects the years and the work I've put into earning my rank. I've done my time walking the beats.

They're quite well-accustomed here to dealing with individuals who cannot prove prior work experience.

..."Knight" is pushing it. So is "handsome", depending on who you ask.

I would suggest the police force here; they're in need of a few good men and women. Back home I worked for the FBI, but well. You have to start somewhere, here.

You're really okay starting from square one again?

Not really, but they said they wouldn't start me out on basic patrols again. I could probably make lieutenant if I'm here long enough.

Given you were FBI and there's no way home, you should raise that bar for yourself.
