[This music is really dull. The kind you formal dance to- and sure, it's a formal dance, but he keeps expecting something a little more upbeat to start blasting from a speaker somewhere. Joe eyes up the string quartet glumly, wondering how fast he might be able to haul over his DJ equipment and set up a playlist that could really get this party moving, if someone let him.

Oh well. At least the girls milling around are all pretty, and it's probably the nicest newcomer get together that's been put up yet.

He keeps an eye out for Ahiru, having promised her a dance, but half-hoping he'll be able to talk her out of the idea, since...well-

[After a few minutes, it's her who spots him, and she wanders over with a smile. Her dress may have not been as formal as many others gathered here tonight, but it was easily more formal than she was used to. Her hair is down, instead of in the usual braid (crimped, even!). She's even wearing a small amount of cosmetics; Kurt helped her, of course. Though she's recognizable, she feels completely different from normal. It's a little bit magical to her.

She looks a little self conscious, but the smile stays even when she begins to speak.]

[Double take much? Talk about a transformation! As if the whole Puella Magi ballerina thing wasn't a big turn around from the slightly awkward way Ahiru usually looked. This was...

Well color this teenaged boy impressed, looking her up and down with a funny little riddled smile and high brows, wide eyes. She should wear her hair long like that more often! She looks really girly.]

Oh! Wow... you look really cute, Ahiru!

[He compliments brightly, blinking a few times.] You should dress up and go out more often!

You really think so?

[She glances down at her dress, relieved. As she brushes a strand of hair over her shoulder, her smile grows.]

I needed a lot of help to do it!

Well they did a good job!

[He laughs, a little embarrassed] I didn't realize your hair was so long

Yeah! It's easier to deal with when I have it braided, but I think it's okay to have it like this for special stuff.

[Well, she should have the excuse to go around special more often. Maybe not so often. Or someone else might figure out just how nice of a girl she is, try to win her heart, and then maybe she'd see less of him.

Joe... wouldn't want that to happen]

I don't think I've seen you dressed up before, outside of....y'know-

[She nods, with a tiny laugh at that wink.]

Yeah, I know what you mean. This feels a lot different than that, though!

At your old school...did they teach you how to dance to music like this? Proper?

I mostly learned ballet. I don't think dancing to something like this would be easy for a lot of people as long as they didn't make it really complicated, though! I'd just be worry about stepping on someone's foot.

You're not heavy though, so I don't think it would hurt too much or anything.

Still, it would be sort of embarrassing!

Have you ever danced like this before?

[He shakes his head]

Nah. They don't dance to things like this at clubs.
