[ In the end, Yako's managed to scrape together what she needs for the barbecue, though it's admittedly not easy to take the bus down towards the beach weighed down by plastic bags of meat, seafood, and vegetables that probably outweigh her.

She scrambles out the bus and to where the barbecue's been set up, grinning gratefully at whoever's come to help set up the cooking equipment, heaving her purchases up onto the table set up for preparing food. ]

Well, we'd better get started. [ At the moment, she's dressed in a loose button-up shirt and a pair of cut off shorts to cover up her swimsuit; it looks like it's going to be a long day ahead. ]

[Edgeworth cannot, of course, stay indefinitely, but frankly...By this point, the trial is largely a waiting game. As much as it leaves him uneasy to be out of the office, there's not much to be done in the office. So maybe, in a way, Yako having browbeaten him into coming here was something of a blessing.

And at least hauling things and doing things leaves him feeling somewhat productive.

He's in a loose button-down shirt and swimming trunks and feeling quite self-conscious and underdressed. He continues on nevertheless.]

Are you certain you can carry all of that?

[ She's honestly surprised Edgeworth didn't show up in a cravat (or, in her worst moments of silently doubting his fashion sense, anything with ruffles on it). In her own, absent-minded way, she approves. Edgeworth doesn't actually look relaxed, but maybe he'll loosen up eventually ]

I'm stronger than I look. [ She rolls up her sleeves, then nods towards the bags. ] Help me sort them out. Seafood, beef, and pork-- and then pass me the vegetables so I can start chopping them up.

[He nods acknowledgment, then starts pulling things out of the bags. He furrows his brow, though, as he does so. He realizes that he might well never have seen a piece of uncooked meat in his life before...Well, with the exception of one very gristly case. The pork does look somewhat similar to...

All right. He decides right then he's not going to be having pork.]

Is this...sanitary? Do we have refrigeration units?

Well, did you wash your hands before coming here? We don't have refrigerators, but we do have coolers. [ She puts out plastic trays on the table. ] We're going to be marinading them, and they'll be cooked soon enough. As long as we keep them out of direct sunlight-- [ Fortunately, the barbecue area is relatively shadier than the rest of the beach. ] -- it should be fine.

[ She sets a chopping board down on the table, as well as an empty bowl. ] You really haven't cooked anything before?

I've...microwaved things.

[He did indeed wash his hands, but pulls out some hand sanitizer nevertheless.]

And this adheres to the Health Code?

As much of a health code as you can expect at a beach, anyway. [ She laughs. ] Relax, Mr. Edgeworth.

[ And this would be her thrusting the bowl towards him. ] Can you handle mixing the marinade, if I dictate the recipe?

["Relax" is not the easiest command for him. Even so, he grimaces and tries to repeat that mantra to himself.]

I...believe so.

All right. [ And, fishing out some ginger from the plastic bag, she begins to briskly chop. ]

We'll start with something simple. You'll need equal parts soy sauce, mirin-- that's the vinegar-- and sake. We'll need a lot of the marinade, so two cups of each of those will do. After that, you'll need to mix in a cup of sugar-- a little less, if you don't want it too sweet.

Ah. So I'm to...measure as well.

Just use a plastic cup. [ There are plenty on the table, after all. ... Just how bad are you at cooking, Edgeworth? ]

mentis_reae June 20 2011, 06:52:54 UTC
...Don't tell me that you don't have measuring cups.

Nope! [ All too cheerful. ] I don't usually use those, anyway. Everything's a mater of experimenting to see what suits your taste.

mentis_reae June 20 2011, 07:10:45 UTC
I would be considerably more comfortable with precise measurements.

topslug June 20 2011, 07:49:33 UTC
Well, the proportions are more important than anything else. [ Chop chop chop. ] And even that's a matter of taste.

But I do not know what it's supposed to taste like.
