Twilight Vampire Feeding Frequency

Apr 03, 2009 17:47

I'm looking for any and all references in canon to the frequency of vampire feedings. What I'm particularly interested in is the frequency for the human eating vampires, but absolutely any reference would be appreciated. If you know of a spot in canon where a specific time is given, please leave me a comment. I know of a few spots myself, but I ( Read more... )

Hmmm... interesting question! Didn't the Volturi have unsuspecting people brought in to feed on every evening? I don't have New Moon handy (gasp!), but this might be a place to check, no? It might have been just my imagination that they ate that frequently. I'm so curious now! I'll have to do some research for you. :)

Oh. Good thought! I'll check that section.

My reason for asking is that in my fanfic, I have Maria making Jasper go two weeks without feeding. Someone on an archive site left a review that mature vampires only feed every two weeks anyway. I picked the two weeks for the MS reference, so I'm sure it was hard for Jasper, but now I'm looking for more canon references. It's important for to establish what "starving" is in my stories.

The two weeks from Midnight Sun is the only nailed down timeframe that I can think of, and all of them were pretty black eyed/cranky. I know that Edward says that he is over fed when he's hunting everyday when he first is hanging around Bella.

Thanks. That's all that I could find, too. I've been looking, rereading anywhere I could think there might be a reference, and nothing. But if anyone would know, it would be you. Maybe the reviewer just didn't know what she was talking about.

I think it's actually probably harder for the Southern vampires to make it longer. I'm basing that on SMs comments about how drinking a little bit of human blood, say donated blood, would only make the thirst stronger. I think that it seems like the more vampires are used to feeding, the more they need to feed. It's almost like a drug.

I probably overanalyze this stuff way too much, but I really want to be accurate in my stories.

I believe according to New Moon that they did have them come in every night! I kind of got that impression from reading about the human feeding vampires and I am sure that they do feed almost every day, which is weird since the Cullens don't as much and they don't feed on humans, so if animals don't always satisfy then why is it they can feed less? Hmmm...weird huh?!

I reread the relevant parts I could find in NM. I couldn't find anywhere that it said a time frame. It talks about having them brought in, and of course we're shown that, but it doesn't say a frequency that I could find.

I also got the impression that human feeding vampires eat more frequently than the Cullens. I really think that SM describes drinking human blood like a drug. Perhaps if you're on a detox program, and you're drinking low levels of non-satisfying drug to not go into withdrawal, well then maybe you don't crave that non-satisfying drug as frequently. A little taste of human blood would get you hooked again, but you can maintain with low levels of animals. I don't know. It's just a theory.

One thing I do wonder is if poor Jazz has to go hunting by himself all the time. It's obvious the others don't have to feed as often as him. I wonder if that bothers him.
