I'm not a fan of this type of genre in novels, so I didn't read it or see the films. But Hunger Games was the first of this type. Very quickly the other followed it. Even if I would like this type of film, I think I would see it only because it was the better of crap being churned out now. And Jennifer is a better then any garden variety actor.
Jennifer is better. I like the concept. I don't mind these distopian ideas because more often than not there is a grain of truth even it if is tiny.
My issue is too often it is not a good story. The Hunger Games as a good concept and message but sometimes they focus too much on the details or too much on the emotion and don't balance it out enough.
I have seen both of the first movies and was unimpressed with both. They were okay, but very much old sci-fi stories rehashed. This was already done before and I wasn't excited about anything new they added. The first one wasn't bad, but unlike you, I really didn't enjoy the second at all. It was just like watching the first one again ... and why do that?
I never read the books but Tim did (at the behest of his girl friends back in grade 8), and he said of the books he liked the 3rd one best. He found the other two boring. So maybe the movie(s) of the third book will be the best too. I'll probably watch it once it comes to Netflix (as I did the others) 'cause it's free then and I won't feel like I wasted money seeing it if I don't like it.
The senario in the second book is similar it is just the story that is changing slightly. I like this because from Katniss's perspective it is just hell all over again but then there is clearly some plan going on around her. The third story appears to be very different.
I enjoy the story but for some reason the first and third movie just don't really excite me.
