I'm really really hesitant to read this one. I LOVE Young Ian. He's my favorite of all of them. I also HATE the way DG wrote the Quakers in the last book and I LOATHE the Quaker chick Ian's supposed to be getting married to. I mean I hated her before I knew DG was marrying Ian off to her. I loved Emily (his Indian wife) as a character and appreciated the flaws in their relationship and what happened there.

The way DG has written the Quakers is annoying though - the language especially. The fact that they're Quakers .... who don't follow a huge proportion of the Quaker beliefs & rules. The both of them (isn't it her and her brother or father or something?) feel like characters who were shoved in so DG could "explore more historical groups" and do whatever the hell she wanted. They're forced and I hate that.

Sorry for the long winded rant of rantiness. I don't suppose you could tell me she dies a horrible death or something early on and reading the book won't make me want to set my e-reader on fire?

Well, I suppose if you don't like Rachel you might not enjoy the Ian and Rachel parts of this book. I actually really like Rachel but don't love the "plain speech" of the Quakers but overall love both Rachel and Dottie (John's niece). I'm not sure we ever really knew Emily and her walking away from Ian pissed me off.

I like that Rachel & Denny (her brother) aren't strict Quakers because it is very likely people like them started other Christian factions/branches with there change in beliefs. I see it as realistic in a time of different Christian beliefs and when people were defining their branch of the religion. I think some of that shows in this book.

I will tell you Rachel is in the entire book and I don't think you'll like that but I loved it all.

Sorry.
