I have to admit, I tend to agree with this assessment. I adore DG but her stance on fan fiction has always seemed offensive. As if fans are setting out to ruin the thing they love enough to write about. When in fact they love it so much their minds are working and coming up with more story, alternate story or how well it would fit with something else they saw or read.

In some cases, they do come up with a totally independent story and yet you can clearly see how it was inspired by the very thing they loved.

fascinating read! I don't read fic much lately but I will remember this if ever someone (one person in particular) giving me grief. :)

It rather angers me at times that people can be so condemning of fan fiction and then celebrate something like Fifty Shades of Grey which everyone knows is Twilight.

I just had to repost this because it was the best defense of fanfiction.
