LJ Problems & Hostility

So I'm probably not the only one hitting a snag every time they try to post. You are all probably seeing that there is not Text Editor and HTML Editor though the blank form you see is the HTML editor just so you know ( Read more... )

The only thing I noticed was a friend's page was missing her background and banner and when I made a comment that was totally different, but everything is the same as usual as I read and comment on yours right now. When I went to change my icon on hers it actually showed them, not just the labels I put on them, but just now it was the labels again.

Weird.

That is because LJ disabled customized comments. She'll have to go to the Display section of her Journal Customizations and change that. It now says "Yes" turn of customizations on comment page but it should say no.

Generally, whenever something changes or goes wrong people fly off the handle. It's never warranted, but they all do it. I *LOVE* when something goes wrong and 100s of people immediately start demanding compensation, and go on and on about how they are leaving because the site/game/company OBVIOUSLY doesn't care about their users/buyers because it would otherwise be perfect all the time.

I see it over and over with World of Warcraft users. The server goes down for a couple minutes. The forums on the official site fill with people screaming about the injustice of it. It's pretty sad in my opinion. The only reason I try not to complain too much about it all... is it usually results in me getting free play time or other such goodies. Let the others be jerks, I'll continue to give feedback where needed and let them get me the free stuff.

It is called addiction. I mean I hate when LJ goes down and it is really inconvenient but what can you do. Things must be worked on.

Sure LJ should give us some kind of warning but that would be smart and I find that program developers often miss the most obvious of things.

I try not to complain either. I did, however, comment that it is never appreciated when they turn off things. With this comments page change they turned off all customized comment pages so people are obviously wondering what happened when all the have to do is go into Edit Journal and go to the Display settings and mark it no so it doesn't turn it all off.

I don't hate all the improvements they've made to the comments, although I think they got a little carried away and in the case of removing subject lines and the preview button, they threw the baby out with the bathwater. From what I've seen, most people are so pissed off because, one, there was no real warning that the comment system would get such big changes, two, removing the subject line is not only pretty stupid (or at best completely unnecessary) but actually a massive headache for a lot of communities, and three, there were LJ staff members on Twitter whose response to (at the time) over 6000 overwhelmingly negative comments was basically "they'll get over it," not to mention a general lack of a real official response until the emails that were sent out yesterday. And the last time I checked the release post yesterday it had 122 pages of comments, most of which were clearly complaints ( ... )

There is truth in that though. They will get over it. I feel like some many computer users need instant gratification. Things change and therefore they should revolt but once they learn things won't be going back they grumble and move on. Now, should that LJ staffer say that on Twitter. NO. I hope they are at least reprimanded ( ... )

I don't know if you were using a custom comments page (your page looked like your journal) but it has been turned off so if you want it to look like your journal read this.
