Eventually even Clar has to go out for a bit, and it's then that Mordred turns up in the doorway, his eyes both darker and brighter than usual.

"Real clever way to go about it, then," glaring down at him.

Sulkily, "Would've been better if I had. Then I'd come back and be well and stand up to you lot properly."

Mordred rests a fist against the doorframe. "Nice. That's real nice to know. We're the enemy."

"I didn't mean it like that," he says quickly.

"Sure you didn't."

[sirbeaumains]

"I just don't want you to kill anybody."

[illgotten]

"Shit," bitterly, turning away. "What else am I good for?"

"I'm sorry. You can't, though."

"Don't tell me 'can't', lad."

"Shouldn't, then."

[illgotten]

"Don't."

[sirbeaumains]

Ever obedient-- or at least mostly--, he falls silent.

"I seem to remember telling you," quietly, but still intense, "fairly recently, that you weren't the only one in this family with morals."
